exactly...it's scary to see how shoddy the workmnship has slipped over the years

Bro. No joke on sloppiness.......

Crux is the way project tenders are being called for...

70percent of govt contracts i say are awarded to lowest bidders.

A lot of sub contract works end up pricr even lower and subsequently material used also compromised plus workers pay also hentataki. End up skive here and there.

Whole system needs a revamp but heck the theory of pay peanuts get monkey is usually true

but we are paying top dollar for monkeys... no?

There's a metal frame with many attachment points holding all these up right. Or at least ultimately it's bolted onto something solid above. Provided each panel or gypsum board is not too heavy, then shouldn't give way so easily.

Unless whether the frame attach to the real ceiling, the screws drilled into the concrete can't hold.

its time for the all powerful cable ties...  one stop solution for all problems..

not only govt tenders, even the private condos where the sub cons are those PRC contractors.  Vomit blood liao as the shoddy work goes undetected until years later.

As is, currently still fighting with a big name at my development on the works.  MAny more surfacing now

Yup, HDB, condo, everything also standard dropped.

My parents' first flat aesthetically not fantastic, but stayed 15 yr not much problem. Second flat got our toilet floor leaked to downstairs ceiling. Our room ceiling got water drip - and the flat was top floor.

My current place also many problems...

When I was in Med School Year 1, an NUS (that time only one, no such thing as "Yong Loo Lin") lecture hall ceiling collapsed during a biochem lecture. Definitely didn't make the news. Now everything also must report. :D

looks like the moderators are overworked here.  [dizzy]

it's the ceiling of the lecture theatre that had collapsed, not the lecture theatre itself.  [sweatdrop]

sorry i don't get this.

In AC room, the pressure is usually stronger than atmosphere. So sometimes when you open a door leading to AC room, you will feel a gush of cold air flowing out. Similarly, sometimes you find it hard to open/close these doors. No that the door hinges are faulty but because of difference in air pressure.

So imagine a room is slightly pressurize, people open the doors, pressure reduced. when the doors are closed, pressure build up again. This might cause fatigue stress on the structure holding the false ceiling. If the FM team increases the air flow maybe due to people complaining that the room is too hot/stuffy without considering the pressure balance, such failure might occur. I've encounter a few before and thus my comments. It may not apply to this incident though.
