Next two days better don't rain big big, if not Sep 30 maybe cannot restore services.

IMHO.
The longer they take to restore, actually is better because hopefully, there will be changes.

I more interested to know how many SMRT engineers/technicians doing the hands-on fixing.

“Speaking to the media during a visit to the tracks leading to Ulu Pandan Depot late on Sept 26, Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat said more than 300 engineers and technicians from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT have been working over the last 40 hours to conduct checks and repairs on the damaged tracks and equipment.”

This breakdown is really a "shame on us".

A train of 35 yo equates to 3.5 cycle of coe or 7 cycles of GE.

If that train could talk, it probably will just continue to work in silence like our plate collectors? How much more money it has to rake in before finally surrender itself?

And we are so overly concerned over something every 5 yrs? Be assured lah. What major damage can 5 yrs inflict leh? Is like how bad can a 5 yo car be leh? This is one good example that shit can only happen after a long long time? Train 35 yo already we also bochap dare to take but dare not take a plunge? 😉

I bet that train has already depreciated to zero long long time ago. In accounting books, maybe 15, 20 or max max 25 years depreciation.

question: how many generals does it take to repair a traction power fault?

:D

Are you prepared to wait 50 man-years for them to calculate the answer for you? :D

how come only discovered “34 cracks” when there was a train disruption?

isn’t  there is a scheduled maintenance train that travel on the track to “scan” for crack, fault, condition of the track as part of preventive maintenance?

But the system is like that.... if one person, depending on job, may kenna WSH.   If two persons,  the other very likely is eye power.

... To me this look like human error...

SMRT should have asked "Is a damage train likely to damage the track? If so, what reasonable checks can we do to prevent that?" (reasonable in terms of time taken as there is real time pressure to move the train away ASAP) My simple thinking is you can move the train a short distance and visually inspect the track before moving it all the way. Does not take that long.

I think the public scold minister, minister scold SMRT, so everyone is trying to minimise disruption, train got problem, faster move train away so MCFers don't complain...

That is understandable but I think the "worst harm can come from the best intentions"... It really does not matter if your intentions were good... at least not in terms of outcome.

... in my work, if two person, there is a chance both is eye power.... that is why in my line, there is only ONE person who is responsible for one thing.

At least MRT Corp has contingency FREE bus plans …… try when the London tube when it’s down ….. nothing absolutely….. as you to make own arrangements or go to some other line and I doubt if it’s even free …… I was stuck in one many years back…… though I don’t know how long was the disruption …….. hiccups always happen…… let’s learn to accept somethings can always go wrong

UK honestly has the WORST rail in the world, at least among the countries I have experienced... I don't think we should aim for the bottom.

Hiccups can happen. I think using a 35 year old train is ok, assuming it is cost efficient and well maintained. Having an old train break down and cause delay is OK, assuming it is not too often.

Driving a broken down train and then CLOBBERING the entire track I think is not reasonable and can be prevented.
