Actually.

When roads are built, the ground is compacted, then a layer of soil put on top. And it's not a very thick layer.

So tree roots can't really go deep, and can't go wide because the space usually only 3 or 4 meters maximum.

 

Plus.. there often are water , power, sewage, telecom pipes etc nearby.

So the big trees end up with small narrow base.

Falling trees are part of life now

 

if thats the case, then I am really worried about those trees they place at HDB new style "pinnacle" type of corridor.
