Hahaha I agree. I saw one in the flesh. The older one looks so much better

Haha. Mine 75k. If I'm going to change, it would be this year. If not it will be drive all the way until 8-9th year. But on the other hand, my car mileage is low. Feel bit wasted.

Thanks for vindicating me.

I saw a few in the flesh as well. Dark colored.

Now still new so it seems fresh on the roads.

Give it 2 years and u will really hate all the weird angles at the front. Think prius.

Do u intend to meet the 10 yrs cycles when 75 k coe is back during the period when yr car is EOL?

That's one consideration for sure. But on the other hand. Given that my car is only just getting minimal amount over scrap value. So the next few years of ownership are just reduction in paper value.

If my car was high mileage or giving problems, sure it would be easy. But with only 53k on clock for 4 year old car, bit sayang lah. And I still enjoy driving my car.

Thanks for vindicating me.

Yup. That's a good analogy. It's like a less ugly prius. Which isn't saying much lol.

now the market is ideal for those who has no car on hand, but can afford one.

i have a fren whose car's COE was $68k. He's been thinking about changing for 8 mth already, but can't stomach the low trade-in offered [sweatdrop]

thats true ... I also cant change car without a hole in the wallet .....  :D

can only drive all the way for 10 yrs or more depend on whats gonna happen later .

In the 4th year of ownership, the paper value depreciation for this year is the slowest compared to the later years cos your parf is 55%. If trading in beyond then, I can still trade in any time. Anyway its just my own justification. It doesn't make any sense to other people.

But i always hear people say change car at 4th to 5th year of ownership is the most appropriate timing. Dont know how true la. Lol.

I think SGCM or MCF had an article on this actually few months back.

There's some truth to this.

So for example, my car the paper value depreciation this year between Jan '19 to Jan '20 will be around 8+k for this year. But in the following years, it will be 9+k per year.  Not a big difference but still something to take note of.

Of course drive to 9-10 years is the most hua  [laugh]

So maybe either you change car at 4th-5th year or drive until 9-10th year.

Hi, your COE 75k ? You are likely driving a Cat B if not a premium brand. Otherwise it makes a lot of sense to change now because like it or not, you will be writing off 7.5k per year just for COE itself, letting alone the remaining parf value, all in should be at least 8+k per year of depre, if you change now, you should be better off with the yearly depre of a new car. But I am assuming say kimchi to kimchi. Edited by Ct3833

I'm probably going to get a wagon. Easier to put my dog travel crate.

I don't like SUVs though it makes sense to get one ... I don't really need 7 seats.

Anyway i have other financial commitments this year, those are more important.

Every year SE also say buy now, coe drop so people will chiong. End up coe dropped since 2017 and those who needed to buy would have bought.

There is just no demand now.

I scrapped my car in early 2016, because I refused to pay so much for COE and ARF etc , I have since been driving used car. Fortunately, today I dare to say that my decision have been correct because I have avoided paying for high COE. Now the problem is I find used car is so cheap to maintain that even at today's car price, I still am unable to accept the fact that I have to pay so much for a new car.

But the current car price is lowest among the past many years.

There's always 2 sides to the coin.

Downside is that u have to take massive losses on the current car.  So as of now, if i trade in, my depreciation over this 4 years would be 22-23k/year for this 4 years i've owned it. If i drive to 8 years, the depreciation would <16k/year over the 8 years.

U can argue it's sunk cost fallacy etc, but ultimately, paying the AD more profit (another 10-30k+) x 1 more time doesn't make it "cheaper"

Of course i can downgrade to Cat A. but i know I will probably get hand itchy again in few years lol.

Now I see, Cat B. My take is then you should not go to cat A, you won't like the lack of power seriously. And especially if you may change car again when backside gets itchy.

But again , if you could afford, money can buy happiness , then buy what could give you happiness.

Haha.
