Today, I suspect Rolex is copying the Hermes way by limiting supply of SS sport watches, and only giving them to their best customers. It kind of works for them because I understand from AD that they now have the best profit margin in years. Firstly, they don't have to discount on SS sport/DJ anymore, and secondly, people buy those less desirable watches to get the popular ones. Thirdly, people post more in social media how hard it is to get these watches, and then post again when they manage to get it. The hype and demand is almost unreal now and it works in Rolex favour.
