And its only gotten worse since then.  Many asean countries have or are in process of acquiring long range anti naval capabilities. They aren't preparing to fight Japanese carriers and "fishing boats" 😂

If some of you hadn't notice, the Chinese hadn't missed a single SLD in last 15 years, aside from the cancelled event during COVID lockdown.

In an interview, Dr Ng shared the Chinese had been learning from attending the annual Singapore summit, which the ex-Minister admitted is "less scripted" because of "Western-based meeting" nature which to Asians cultural tje "full on" attitude is considered as "没礼貌"...

  Dr Ng added it is "healthy" the Chinese learning to become more vocal (aka assertive) in public forum is a "good development"  💪😁👍

Errr....me think you got mixed up:   Ng was a doc while Chan was soldier.

So the later has more experience in defence matter.

Sure, as elected officials, both were "thrown" into the furnace" in an increasingly unstable world which, like you said, need even more experience that $$$ "cannot buy".

Since defense is no "monkey" business that no $$$ can buy, only way is OJT.

Good news is our current MInister Chan is already an old bird in his experience with other militaries.

One deal with actual life and death. Went through cadaver school.

The other dont know what to do if he help somebody die after cutting them up.

Being a senior con on rounds is real time war fight with strategy and grab balls.

Not table top exercise or running around ensuring training safety.

Plus alike Toh Chin Chye or transitional cell carcinoma in build and makeup.

Boy limpeh doing life and death and wrestle with my conscience then can jiak guay chap in peace.

Dealing with people who most probably have ended life and faced greater amounts of selection and competition. A scholar front facing is good only if his staff are blooded.

Dealing with pple will always be part of Life and Death.

However, if a scholar fails to deal with difficult pple or warrior fails to prevent his staff being used to draw blood, then Singapore will be a very different country since 1965.  Good thing is our scholars and warriors have keep difficult pple like Joker M in check.
