Yes I totally agree that AA is simply CMI.

Not say I never give it chance, I tried from the day it was not yet available in the play store until most recently late last year, sometime work, mostly screw up, so I finally gave up and went apple carplay.

Don't bet it will too early. My phone is about a year old (so not exactly an old phone) runs on Android version 12, which ia the latest software, and AA refuse to work. 

The HU in my previous optra could link up with AA via wire after rooting ( because back then only carplay was available officially, AA was not available in play store) but it hung after a software update and never recover, gave up and use the phone. 

Then came the Astra, could use the updated AA, but siao siao suka suka hang, and at least 50% of the time half way through navigation, it just shut down by itself, and leave you looking for the place blind. 

Current car is cannot connect at all. 

So can AA work? Well, simple answer is yes. Can it work seamlessly? I say to hell with it. 

I use an old used XS, which is about 4-5 years old, maybe older than his android phone, and it works on my current HU. If the same HU can use apple carplay, then what's wrong with the HU?

This attest to the adage that apps tend to work well on IOS and better than on Android.  My experience with AA was actually good, it worked on my Subaru since some 5 years ago every time, and also now on my latest ride Civic.  One reason that makes me stick to AA is because of Google Assistant, which in my opinion works much better than Siri.  I use voice to compose and send whatsapp messages, play youtube songs, all without touching the HU screen or phone.  However, as my car comes with wireless Apple Car Play, I am tempted to switch to iphone to do away with cables, as AA still requires cable.  Still resisting the change.
