thought the 82.5 kWh battery can be used

No cars do that i think. Using the HV pack means the BMS and inverter or whatever needs to be on and that sucks a few hundred wats afaik.

I think tesla uses it to charge the 12v intermitently when in sentry mode but i may be wrong.

China like the Tesla style no button and also flat backside SUVs more.

But yah many better EVs in China. And all so cheap. I sure buy Denza GT if I in China.

Aussies seem to like the SL7 the most. And most buy the Perf model. Their electricity is so cheap and no oppressive hp tax.

Interesting that since May 2024, BYD claims that 215k Sealion 7s have been sold. Which means during the first six months of 2026, BYD has sold around 30.6k, with most sales overseas.

In it's domestic home market, the Sealion 7 is outdated and no longer competitive.  That's where locals are spoilt for choice and with aggressive pricing from so many auto makers.  So to keep the production line running and pay for the sunk capital costs, BYD has decided to ship the Sealion 7 overseas where demand and margins are higher. This is a good business decision and goes to show how far behind international auto makers are when a two year old model is considered outdated in mainland China.

Not a good thing when model cycles get compressed like that. Besides risk of bugs, spare parts supply will be squeezed and lifecycle support shortened.

Plus limbeh no money change car yearly!

I realized Chinese brands don’t have much brand synergy, they just throw tons of stuff at the wall and hope something sticks.

Same can be said about ICE car. New models are launched every 2-3 years, sometimes major improvements, others with extra gadgets or face lift.  Up to individual owner whether got money to change car or feel whether worth changing car

Mentioned by @therock in the above thread, there's going to be an slight update to the Sealion 7 for 2026. See table below from 1826.

BYD_SL7_2026_version_1826.jpeg.94dbe6f1bbb643252164ba3d2428d9d8.jpeg

Apart from two new colors, the 2026 upgrade includes a bigger battery of 91.39kWhr for the Premium Extended Range and Performance AWD Extended Range versions, which is +8.88kWhr more from the previous 2024 model. It now matches the battery capacity of what's available in Europe.

For the Premium Extend Range, this has resulted in an increased driving range to 540km (+60km) at the expensive of a heavier ride. Now a porky 2,295kg (+70kg), whist maintaining the same carrying capacity of 410kg - resulting in a gross vehicle weight of 2,705kg!😶

Surprisingly the energy efficiency has improved for the 2026 version to 19.3kWhr per 100km. That's about 3% better (-0.6kWhr per 100km) than the previous model. Don't know how BYD got this number with a heavier vehicle - as it wont make much of a difference in the real world.

The 2026 Sealion 7 is still sitting on the older e-Platform 3.0 Evo, which means the same old 400V architecture and same slow DC charging rate of 150kW. Same old Blade Battery 1.0 with a lower energy density. Everything else looks to be same. The two year old out dated platform can no longer compete against rivals in the fierce domestic mainland market, so BYD is now exporting its way out of trouble by making the Sealion 7 available around the world - the exception being the good old US of A.

If OMV doesn't change, one is getting a bit more on the 2026 version of the Sealion 7 - so the older models (with the smaller battery) should now be available at a slight discount.

Don't look forward to this new blade first, just stay with current blade as it proven so far... let the consumer in China tried out as they will have market.

But anyway, it involve super high voltage charging. I doubt we have here in Singapore.

Btw, nominal voltage of the SL7 pack is about 550v to 560v. I tested also on my OBD2 link before BYD's last update which blocked the info. It tallies with a 172 cell LFP pack voltage.

@kayabread82 The new Blade Battery 2.0 will initially be made available on the high end Denza model - Z9GT. Malaysia will get the Z9GT first for the RHD market.

The new Blade Battery 2.0 provides a number of features. These include

(1) Higher energy density for the long blade version that's common on most VFM BYDs. It will reduce weight of the ride for the same volumetric density, thus improving range;

(2) Lower cost on a per kWhr/kg basis. Thus reducing the OMV when importing into Singapore;

(3) Higher cycle count before reaching 70% capacity degradation. Thus improving the longevity of the battery pack and not having to worry about replacing well beyond two CoE cycles;

(4) Very good cold weather performance; and

(5) Ultra fast charging.

Item (4) would not be applicable here in Singapore - but in other parts of the world where cold weather degrades battery capacity and performance - it's a no brainer to have Blade 2.0 over Blade 1.0. If you're not interested in item (5), at least items (1) to (3) should be good enough. Economics and practicality will drive the adoption of Blade Battery 2.0.

Demand of Blade Battery 2.0 models is very high in mainland. BYD had to step up the new battery production as it was affecting the output and of some of their models that has high demand. Examples are the Seal 08, Fang Chen Bao Ti3 and Great Tang.

Looking forward in seeing Blade Battery 2.0 become available on more B&B rides from BYD. An example is the new Atto 5 (or 3rd generation Yuan Plus in the mainland).

Hopefully will see more of BYD's 'T' shaped flash chargers over the causeway (along the highways) where it'll be more useful and convenient during road trips. BYD's flash chargers will benefit everyone. Most BEVs DC fast charge will not go to 1,000kW of power, thus easily meeting their max charging power requirement, and speeding up the charging experience.

I doubt Blade 2.0 will come in mainstream cars within 2 years. They need to milk the old toolings for Blade 1.0 first for foreign low end market. Hell, most of the BYD crop here are still 3.0 non-evo.

Maybe limited higher end Denza units first.

BYD's competitors are not sitting on their laurels. Geely, Chery, Changan, SAIC, CATL and others are now producing their next generation batteries which will be going into current / new rides. If BYD wants to loose market share and let others eat their lunch by not providing the Blade Battery 2.0 with flash charging into the market, its going to be at their loss. I.e. score an own goal in the world cup finals. 😮

Wang Chuanfu made a bold statement in June 2026 - saying that BYD will beat Toyota sometime in 2031 (within five years time) to become the world's largest auto maker - without the US of A market.😶 Business Times article is here: https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/companies-markets/transport-logistics/byd-chairman-says-firm-will-be-worlds-biggest-automaker-five-years-shares-slide

The auto business is a zero sum game. To be No.1, BYD has to sell more rides - which is within their control. Or politely ask Toyota to give up their market share (outside of BYD's control) and something that Akio Toyoda wont do without a fight. With the exception of the good old US of A, BYD can get to the No.1 position by rolling out their Blade Battery 2.0 with flash charging to everyone in the world. Wang Chuanfu is going to look pretty stupid if this isn't done ASAP.

Lets see how BYD responds to Xpeng when the Mona L03 is released in Q4 2026. If Premium Auto prices the Xpeng L03 right to be a VFM volume seller (i.e. below the Atto 3), then BYD will either have to drop their price on their existing models (because they're outdated and not competitive) or bring in new / refreshed models to be competitive.

We're living in exciting and interesting times.

Premium Auto

But lets see. I agree if they price it below or equal to Atto 3, its a good fight. But again, its Premium Auto. I am betting it will be at Sealion 7 price or higher.
