Aircon pipe insulation

I dunno if this has been discussed before, but I remember someone mentioned that he wrapped his aircon pipes with insulation foam. Where can I get those pipe insulation foam from?

Best let your AC technician do it. He will have the insulation material.

Do a search for Res-Air it's at Opal crescent or something. before potong pasir. there's an address/number for them in the resources folder, if i'm not wrong!

Yup, Res-Air, that's where I got it from.

 

They sell all kinds of foam - tube type, panel type, sticky tape type. For the tube type, if I remember correctly, I found that the 1/4 inch and 3/4 inch types are most suitable for car use.

 

But better call beforehand, to ensure they have stocks.

IMM @ Jurong.

Shop name Diayso...selling Insulation Hose for Water-pipe.

To prevent Winter freeze for water pipe.

Only $2 per pc of abt 1 metre.

I done that in my AVEO & almost a year now.

Still super-Cool in current HOOOOt weather.

Do remember to wrap-up with Aluminium foil.

Pardon my ignorance, how do you DIY? Do you wrap the whole tube including the metal portion? Do you wrap with foam 1st then follow by the foil? Please advise us. Thanks.

thanks for the link. which location did u get it from. i see the adress, they got so many, like head office, branch and warehouse. i scare go there liao they dun sell in small quantity to people like me.

 

i intent to wrap the air intake pipe, should i use the "tape" type to wrap around or use the "pipe" type? think will also wrap the aircon duct at the same time. so after wrapping liao use aluminium foil to wrap aroudn right? the shiny side facing out to reflect the heat away?

 

Also i see that they sell the sheet type too, do u think that is suitable to use under the bonnet to protect the bonnet paintwork from engine heat, at the same time ack as a form of sound proofing/dampering.

theoretically if u can prevent heat from entering the aircon duct which carrys the cold air, it will be colder.

 

unless your aircon duct is already heat-shielded at factory default, then extra layer might not help

U can get to view some photo of my DIY.

Insulator came in Slit open tubing.

All U do is PUSH-FIT to piping after cutting to required lenght.

 

After that wrap-up with Alu Foil,

best Alu Foil are those use in yr Mum Kitchen, She used them to prevent Cooking Oil from spattering over Wall & Cooker-Hob.

It is Hard, strong & can be bend to stay in shape.

Cheap too, mine came FREE from Neighbour, she was about to dump.

I think it's 30ft for mine. Can't remember the printing on the box itself.

 

I got the it in a roll. The width is about 1.5 to 2inch. Self adhesive (one-sided). So you can wrap and roll/coil around the pipe w/o using cable tie.

 

The thinckness is about 0.5cm. Not thick as compared to others due to the Low thermal conductivity (K value) according to the site. easy to work on i guess.

 

No need for metal foil since it is said to prevent condensation or frosting with its vapour barrier.

I went to the head office at owen road. grab one off the shelve and pay at the counter. they took a few shop units along the stretch. so if you see a unit closed, go on to the next where the main entrance is ...

 

tape or pipe type up to you, depend which fits well for ur application. I think the pipe u need to 'glue' up the slit or cable tie (fire-proof ones) it to secure.

 

I did not wrap with alu foil as the product site says it's suppose to prevent condensation/frosting with its vapour barrier capability. Maybe I should try wrapping. I guess the shiny side out.

 

think can use to protect bonnet, but as a form of sound proofing/dampering, i dun think so, maybe someone can advise on this area. I heard others using bitumen sheet or something to sound proof.. any car audio enthusiast?

my air con pipe is next to the engine. So when the coolant passes thru, it get's affected by the heat and i think becos of that reduces the cold air or i need to reduce the temp further when weather is very hot, and this cause my aircon /engine to work harder i guess, and thus using more fuel. So insulating the pipe could help i suppose. correct me if i am wrong
