Tea3 Neutral Newbie January 21, 2004 Author Share January 21, 2004 hi, perhaps I can offer some help.. Does the car stall at idle or only when u engage gears (fwd or reverse) also when it dies, how many times did you have to crank before the engine fires up. I could think of the following for now : 1) Fuel pump starting to fail...(oso include fuel filter dirty) 2) car engine out of tune (need to check rpm at idle and if it fluctuates) 3) Power transformer (if your car has it...it provides the voltage to fire up your coil and distributor) hope it gives u some insights.. Wow, lots of questions to answer but I really appreciate it. It stalled when I am reversing or in 1st gear. However, it threatened to stall a few times while I was driving on the expressway. I had to crank 1-2 times before I could get the engine starting again. Yes, my car's rpm does fluctuate & my light flickers when engine idles. Personally, I feel that it is out of tune. Spoke to some people but they say minor problem. Will alternator problem cause engine to stall too?

Redliner_sg Neutral Newbie January 21, 2004 Share January 21, 2004 (edited) Just a thought, could it be one of the sensors or connectors not plugged in properly? or, did you have an engine wash at a carwash? My experience with rpm fluctuating (hunting) is because of one of the sensors not reading properly, so the cpu cannot perform properly. Your light flickering is probably due to the idle speed dropping too low before the cpu revs it up again. Otherwise, i would go with contaminated fuel Hope this helps Edited January 21, 2004 by Redliner_sg

Will alternator problem cause engine to stall too? ________________________________________________________________________________ _________ If your engine dies when u are changing gear when on expressway....just engage a comfortable gear for the speed u are at and gently let go of the clutch. The enggine should come back to life. I had this prob with my car too. Later i found out that it was cos a wire connecting to the fan was loose and the fan wasnt working properly...thus my engine was too hot. Another could the the opening that allows petrol to feed into the engine...maybe it is not as sensitive as before so it cant really maintain the right output of petrol even at idling. I also have this prob...but cant solve...so just increase the idling rpm lorr...then it wont dip till 400 rpm and cos your engine to die.
Starlet Neutral Newbie January 21, 2004 Share January 21, 2004 Hi I have the same problem with my previous car. My car's fuel filter was dirty. Advice to start troubleshooting the "fuel flow" by changing the fuel filter first.
Dualie Clutched January 21, 2004 Share January 21, 2004 Had similiar problems with my Lancer before... All I did was to clean my throttle body and everything is fine again...
Yeobh 4th Gear January 21, 2004 Share January 21, 2004 To diagnose car with intermittent stalling problem is big headache even for the professional mechanics. It will be more difficult to do so virtually. The more information the better. To get the car running ,three systems must be working - Fuel system, electric system ( both primary and secondary) and air intake system. From your very brief description , I will first check a)battery voltage b)Replace spark plugs with OEM - to get the right resistance), c) Ohmn all the spark plug tension wires for high resistance or crack in the carbon cord. d)Make sure that the spark plug wire are OEM & not those "high KV output" type. e)Make sure the spark wire are properly plug into the spark plugs. f)Check for loose wire at tension coils or distributor. Have a nice time , Happy CNY
Luckcent 4th Gear January 21, 2004 Share January 21, 2004 When I was driving the Lancia Dedra, it gives the same problem. There are two things to check. 1. It may be due to the throttle valve 2. It may be du to the fuel filter. My problem after many occasions to my mechanic, he found the plug cable to be rusty.
Tea3 Neutral Newbie January 21, 2004 Author Share January 21, 2004 Sounds like the idle throttle cap butterfly (sth lidat)...Or could be ur fuel filter. changed recently? Sorry ah...very slow to reply. No, haven't changed fuel filter recently. You see, the impression I have when I send my car for servicing is that the mechanic will check everything to ensure that everything is ok. If not, why does my car need to spend the whole day at the workshop? But then, problems keep cropping up & I am asking myself, "Shouldn't this have been picked up during servicing?" Tea3 Neutral Newbie January 21, 2004 Author Share January 21, 2004 Engine wash? No, didn't do that. As for sensors/connectors being plugged properly, I don't know. I reckon the mechanic would have found something if that was the case Last weekend, the EPC light came on while I was driving. Didn't know what it meant but it lasted the whole evening. The next day, it disappeared Contaminated fuel? Meaning water went inside? I recently changed from Mobil to Shell & I add Mexon F-221 fuel additive. Tea3 Neutral Newbie January 21, 2004 Author Share January 21, 2004 Hmmm, fuel filter may be dirty because it hasn't been changed yet. Any recommendations for good fuel filters? Veron Neutral Newbie January 21, 2004 Share January 21, 2004 Hi TEA3, We'd experience with engine problem too last year, not exactly the same problem as yours, but maybe u could ask Servo to check your temperature sensor. U could read a description of our problem here: http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...0sensor;#380200 ↡ Advertisement
