Used Shell Helix Ultra for a 10k. now switch to cxxxxxe TrippleR selling $39.90 at carrefour. [:p]

same weight 5W40.

result : Same leh. [laugh] (I didnt take the engine apart to check for wears. just the driving feel)

I don't redline all the way, just normal driving.

Can anyone tell me any reason to switch back to Shell Helix Ultra at twice the price?

Hi ppl!

Juz want to ask if Shell Helix Ultra is good [sweatdrop] Anyone use it before?

To know if a particular oil is good or not, you need to obtain the Material Safty Data Sheet (MSDS) for that oil. The data sheet will tell you what is the flash point of the oil. The higher the flash point the better. A high flash point indicates that the base oil is of good quality. Minimum, the flash point should be at least 400 degrees Fahrenheit. There are other specifications to look out for. The link below will give you some information on engine oil.

If what you're saying is true from the charts AMSOIL looks good

You can get it right here in mycarforum. Look at the home page. However, I don't find Amsoil cheap, maybe is because it's a good oil. I'm using Royal Purple, suit my budget better. There are a few factors to consider when choosing an engine oil. Basically, the oil you choose must be suitable for your car. I advise checking your owners manual before choosing an engine oil.

I think newer engines requires thinner oil, i.e. lower weight.

All my older cars recommend 10w30. I brought my old car to oil change, they recommend heavier oil for OLDER engines.

2002 Accord only requires 5w20 oil. My 03 matrix requires 5w30.

I think for turbo engine, going too high weight is even more dangerous.. As thicker oil than necessary will only increase the friction of the pistons, causing higher engine load. Easier to blow piston seals.

Also, try to get oil that has a smaller low-high range. E.g. 10-50w oil is lower quality than 10-30w oil. On a hot day, both oil will perform like a 10w oil anyway. For hot weather AND newer cars, 10-30 or 5-30 is good enough.. For older cars, maybe try 15-30 or 15-40 for higher viscousity.

yes, cxxxxxe is the one that used to sell at carrefour, looks like they no longer selling them ley sweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gif IMHO, as long as the oil is fully sync & met SAE 5w-40 & API 'SF' rating, it's good enough for most cars, unless yours is a highly 'tune' engine sly.gifsly.gifsly.gif
