Just saw from 6:30 news that LTA has ammounced that Euro Car plate is illegal in Singapore. Any car that fitted with one will get fine.

 

I feel very funny sometime and can't understand, why wanna pay money to get themselves caught and fine?? What a gd deal in the end by paying more for an euro plate

i tot the reply coming from LTA about Euro Spec Lisc plate is that as long as the font size and measurements conform to LTA standard, what additional things you wanna put on the plate is ok?

Lately there are a number of cars on the road with plates that end with TE. Often they are older cars around 10 years old, and driven by caucasians.

SINGAPORE: More car owners are using Euro car plates, which are considered illegal as their font sizes and colours do not conform to the Land Transport Authority's (LTA's) vehicle licence plate requirements.

 

LTA said the numbers and alphabets on the Euro car plates are not easily distinguishable due to irregularities in font size and colour.

 

Over 8600 car owners were caught using illegal car plates between 2005 and 2007.

 

International car plates are priced between S$80 and S$90, up to some S$30 more than the standard ones.

 

According to one car plate manufacturer, those who opt for Euro car plates usually want to show their love for all things European. He added that in the past few months, an average of 50 owners per month opted for such plates.

 

Under LTA's Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) Rules, those caught using illegal car plates will face a maximum fine of S$1,000 or jail of up to three months.

 

Repeat offenders will be fined a maximum of S$2,000 or a jail term of up to six months. - CNA/ac

so that means their expensive toys cannot read the Euro Spec plates properly..

 

but then, that means as long as the fonts size and dimensions conform to LTA's spec..then you wanna add simiLJ to your plate also can..

Actually, as long as the front and everything else meets LTA requirement. It will be fine. I had mine (made and brought the actual plate to LTA) verified by LTA close to 2 years ago. Heard that some of those with 'approval' letter were also stopped..but were let off after they see the letter. I feel it's better to use the normal ones for the time being. Kenna stopped, whether kenna fined or not, also sian.

 

I have move one to other plate since last Oct. Euro plate is getting too common and a bit silly (with weird letter eg. 'T', 'G', 'CO', etc appearing)

I think it includes those smart@sses who try to be funny and use extra small fonts or alphabets and numerals packed so close together you can't see it beyond 3 car lengths away.

hmmm, i'm using the LTA approved fonts, but on the side of the plate is the european union sticker.. like that how?

put singapore in chinese on top..and then still use back our font and colour scheme

I had mine approved close to 2 years ago.

 

From CNA online...it seems like things remain the same. As long as font type, spacing, background colour, etc meets LTA's equirement...it will be alright.
