Acemundo Supercharged January 11, 2006 Share January 11, 2006 ah...that makes sense.....keke so it would still mean that it is not really required for most cars except for those that are overworked ↡ Advertisement

Jchuacl Clutched January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 Just some observation that I have: ATF Temp with cooler installed. - highway driving, temp varies from 76-80, depending on the speed that I'm going. - With some overtaking performed, the temp goes up by about 1-2. But it'll come down after a couple of minutes, assuming it's smooth traffic. - Stop start driving, temp rises up to 82-84. - Hard acceleration(5-6krpm) after going through stop start driving , 86-90. Unfortunately, I do not have the readings before I install the cooler as I don't have the gauge before that, so no idea how much exactly does the cooler helps in absolute numbers. However, it is clear that stop start driving increases the atf temp, and one should not engage in hard acceleration after clearing through the jams, otherwise it'll take increase the temp even further. I also noticed that the ATF takes some time to cool down. In fact the best switch off the engine for about 5-10 mins to bring down by about 6 C. Unfortunately, I do not have an oil temp gauge at the moment, otherwise, it would be interesting to see the link between the oil temp and atf temp. Genie47 1st Gear January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 I think the results w/o a cooler will be close to 100 deg C which by all counts very normal. ATF like engine oil likes these temperatures.
Jlim Clutched January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 oh 100 degree so high ah . So check atf level after driving is not accurate lor . then how to ensure it is 65 degree so as to check properly the level
Genie47 1st Gear January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 Its not high. It is normal. Why else do you think all the ATF and engine oil has 40 deg C and 100 deg C viscosity ratings?
Jlim Clutched January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 so atf level can check at that temp? but the stick shows 65degree only
Genie47 1st Gear January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 As long as it is warm, you can check.
Acemundo Supercharged January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 so ATF cooler is more of pandering to emotion for normal cars?
Genie47 1st Gear January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 You can say that. Someone has to keep the economy going.
Jlim Clutched January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 ok thanks. but have been getting weird results from my checks these few days. I can get overfilled level at cold, underfilled after warm ups today, then tomorrow get good levels both cold and hot anyway will take one final inspection tomorrow morning! Acemundo Supercharged January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 ok i learn something. by the way is it likely for cars to be overworked/overheat ATF that then see a need for ATF cooler?
Genie47 1st Gear January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 I don't see the need actually. If it needed a cooler, the engineers would not have released it w/o a cooler. Just reduce the ATF change interval then!
Acemundo Supercharged January 14, 2006 Share January 14, 2006 hehe.....got a pt though. i was just thinking if its function could be similar to those of turbocharged who also needs cooler.

What we are getting at is whether it is necessary to use the atf cooler. In the interest of the manufacturer who put in the atf cooler from the factory, there must be a reason and fo hose who didn't. Falc 3rd Gear January 25, 2006 Share January 25, 2006 2 questions from me: 1. Is change/flush of ATF required for installation? 2. Anyone experience hose burst or leak after installation (leading to gearbox catastrophe )?
Luckcent 4th Gear January 26, 2006 Share January 26, 2006 2 questions from me: 1. Is change/flush of ATF required for installation? 2. Anyone experience hose burst or leak after installation (leading to gearbox catastrophe )? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Since you install might as well change/flush the AT oil. Hose breakage should no happen when done properly. Long ago my engine oil cooler hose burst due to negligence of the mechanic and I drove straight to the w/s w/o oil........ Falc 3rd Gear January 26, 2006 Share January 26, 2006 The workshop told me due to heat (maybe car specified), he experienced leaking before in previous installation. ↡ Advertisement
