How small is your spare tyre?

I saw this last week. This Impreza Wagon suffered a flat, and the they had to change it.

I was rather surprised, as the spare looks really small.

 

Looks like a 155 or 165 width?

 

 

 

I am asking because my spare is a 185/60R14 while the rest of my tyres are 205/45R16s.

And my spare has a sports rim from my last set of wheels. I thought if I suffered a flat/puncture, at least the spare can last me quite a distance, and looks more like my other wheels/rim combo

I saw two different cars with the same spare as the one u attached...

I think it was a rover 75... or something and the other one forgot liao....

I was staring at it and wondering whether it would be safe to drive at high speeds with such thin wheels

My Focus' spare is similar - width is 125 if I'm not mistaken. The purpose is just to get you to the workshop, and not exceeding a certain speed - not a true 'spare' in that sense. Oh, and the pressure is very high: 410psi

 

Note: please check the pressure of your spare regularly, don't take it for granted. I was shocked to find that the pressure for mine was 290psi, way too low should I have needed it...

Think it will be expensive for those who upgrade their tyres and rims

 

My Rim/tyre combi would cost me $500 for a spare .... don't think I will pay so much for just a spare.

 

Maybe a 20 or 30 mm width difference should be acceptable.

And the rolling diameter must remain the same as well!

Yeah, but I guess Ford wanted to maximize boot space...

 

Like I said, it's just a temporary spare - if I get a blowout, I might as well take the opportunity to change all the tires... and the rims while I'm at it

410 psi? you mean kpa right?

 

And most of my tyres are at 230kpa, while the spare is inflated whenever I can remember

 

But it should be able to take up to 200-300km at 80kmh, as most spares are designed for that.

 

Just don't try breaking any land-speed record

i am using a taiwan spare rim, which is so much heavier than my main rims....and what i did was i actually hunted for a 2nd hand tyre, which is the same size as my mains

My rim size? 7.5J x 16".

If you meant my tyres, it's 205/45ZR16.

 

Speaking about weight, my tyre/rim set weigh more than 15kg per corner.

Stupid decision on my part to get MOMO!

 

For a spare, I simply used one of my last tyre and rim when I changed.

It should last at least 1000km more

And I don't have to drive slowly.

In fact, the faster I drive, less people will notice that it's a spare
