Skimming is only part of the bigger job. After skimming it is best to finish the surface by honing. Washing with hot soap water should follow and wipe dry with clean cloth. Replace the glazed brake pad with OEM parts.

Perhaps you should replace brake pads after you skimmed your discs. Mine was screeching and mechanic advised to change both together. Anyway, pad was running out anyway so no issues with that. Now no more screeching. thumbsup.gif

I just changed my brake pads for the same reason (brake discs were skimmed, and then plenty of screeching).

When the mechanic removed the old pads, he showed me how the edges were roughed up and distorted from the old disc surface, and said that was the cause of the noise. The old pads themselves were still relatively new.

Some people have suggested 'cambering' the discs to smoothen the edge and remove the rough edge but I believe it will cause about half the cost of the brake pad change anyway. I bit the bullet, and changed to Project Mus at $100, and now it's noise-free.

well...i think you should get the mechanic to file the brake pad for you...if the sound still there then you consider changing a new brake pad, don't need to spend unnessary... [;)]

see if you can get yr mech to open the calipers to see your brake pads.. maybe got foreign particles embedded inside the pads ?

dun waste good money on another set of pads.
