Genie47 1st Gear August 15, 2004 Share August 15, 2004 A whole lot of us went for servicing yesterday. Had a chance to drive the Optra. Pretty neat car, just wondering why my wife is not convinced about it. Anyway, did talk to the SE there. Optra 5 looks likely to hit the showroom in Nov. GM is marketing it here as a upmarket car. Equipment levels will be; 1. Same 1.6L engine 2. Airbags, most likely 2 3. Same 4 disc rotor brake system 4. ABS 5. Traction control! This info might not be accurate. The price will not be as cheapo as the original Optra. ↡ Advertisement

Redeel Neutral Newbie August 15, 2004 Share August 15, 2004 If the pricing is higher, you think it can sell? I have doubts... eddie
Genie47 1st Gear August 15, 2004 Author Share August 15, 2004 Dunno. Car sales in SG is weird. Matrix is the no. 2 best seller after the Corolla. The newest model now has airbags and ABS. The weird thing about it is the tiny boot space for a really big cavernous driver and passenger interior! Good thing they solved the FC issue with the new engine. The Optra 5 might be one of those "evolutions" to catch the public's imagination. Just like the Matrix evolved to bigger engine capacities and newer technologies. The 1.6L ETECII is the main bone of contention. I would prefer it to use the 2.0L DTEC engine.
Arah Neutral Newbie August 16, 2004 Share August 16, 2004 Should sell if it drives like the current Optra. With the addition of the traction control coming out of coners will be much better. It will definately improve the performance, who knows they might even tune the car to cater for better Fuel management. Bit too much to ask . ↡ Advertisement
