Kspchew 2nd Gear July 22, 2010 Share July 22, 2010 Hi l'm looking for workshop to service my 7year old car. And also would anybody recommend me a place in the WEST for cheap and good polishing job. Btw how long does it usually take and how much? For Jap car, u can try www.autoaid.com.sg at Toh Guan. They do polishing too at $68 for a normal saloon car. Otherwise, you can also try www.autosaver.com.sg, they have a workshop at Toh Guan too. Cheers

Pisces69 6th Gear July 23, 2010 Share July 23, 2010 it best to buy yr own items and ask the workshop to replace it and pay for the labour. If the mechanic tells you anything spoilt, just take down the name of the item and go outside to buy. Some of the workshop mark-up a lot on the item. I had been charged almost 2.5 times by the workshop for a pair of brake-pad. Really very sad and disappointed with them S$90 becomes S$222. Furthermore, mine (S$90) is original. The S$222 brake pad I dont know what donkey brand. from then onwards, i learnt my lesson =============== What u say has been standard practice for a long time already in SG. I always buy my own parts (then I can control the quality of what is put in my car & also the price) & get my mech to fix for me. I then only pay labour. Total bill I can save quite a lot & I get only good quality parts in my car. U try go JB workshop is even worse. The parts they give u got original logo & looks like original but the quality is very poor. I suspect many imitation parts there.
Pisces69 6th Gear July 23, 2010 Share July 23, 2010 (edited) But how would you know if the outside also never "chop" you?? what workshop is that bro? maybe can share then wouldn't kana "chop"? Thks ============== If u prefer original parts, u can get from authorised stockist as they r cheaper than agent. But remember to ask where the parts r from. Now many parts r made in China & I suggest u avoid them as quality is questionable. I prefer to pay a little more for Japan/Korea/ etc patrs for better quality. Prices u can call a few shops to compare to know if u kenna chop or not. Always dont b lazy & shop around for a better deal. Pisces69 6th Gear July 23, 2010 Share July 23, 2010 i totally agreed with you. but 2.5times is really too much to digest. i am also doing my own business. A little differences, i dont mind paying at all. ============= Long ago I too was chopped by ws but I learnt my lesson & now buy all my own parts. I dont mind paying a slightly higher labour charge as its very transparent & I dont give the ws a chance to chop me. U can also buy OEM parts which r cheaper (usually by abt 20-30%) compared to Original from stockists(not agent hor). For non-critical parts, u can even get cheaper buying patent parts made by 3rd party manufacturers but these parts might not fit so well so I only buy if I cannot get OEM & the part is a very not important part. Thks u all. ============== I did it b4 on my COE Corona. Just get a 2nd hand motor from scrapyard (very cheap) & get your mech to fix it locally. Like that u get a good quality Jap made motor which is only 3 years old. U buy locally & many r now made in China. One ws changed for me long ago with a HK made(But it was actually China made) motor & it only lasted about 1 month. I bought a 2nd hand Jap motor(1/3 the price of the China motor) from scrap yard & it lasted for >5 years till I sold the car. No problems at all & it worked very well. But a word of advice. Only get from reliable scrapyard. Some wil sell u locally re-con parts & tell u its Jap 2nd hand. These parts r not very good. B careful of Seng Hup in Woodlands. Parts r all original & very cheap compared to new parts sold locally. Plus now many new parts r not made in Japan & some r even made in China which is of very poor quality. BTW how u know its spoilt? Have u checked if its just a loose connection? Those pumps seldom spoil. Edited July 23, 2010 by Pisces69
