Amazing how we sometimes harp on how unleaded, premium 98 would work wonders on our cars...For the Volvo V40, it ran just as well (or even better)!! Now, why don't some parallel importers bring in their Diesel variant?? I'd be the first to snap it up - fuel costs also much lower... You should have gotten an international licence and take the wheel for a short stretch! I know I would if I had the chance to fly to GErmany... Heh...I thought of it. But I was there on work and only had 1.5 days there. It was a touch and go issue... And I didn't dare ask my German colleague to let me take over the wheel... Wymun Neutral Newbie December 6, 2002 Author Share December 6, 2002 (edited) surprisely, the accident rate drops drastically after that....this shows that it's more easy to get into accident when there is a speed limit is being imposed rather than no speed limit.....which is very very good for all the drivers and riders I agree in some respects. In many ways, I believe German upbringing simply encourages cultured, regimental but responsible driving. That's key to enforcing no boundaries to a rule... Imagine if SIngapore had no speed limits... There will inevitably be some "beng" kids racing down the stretch every night/day. Turtlekar 2nd Gear December 6, 2002 Share December 6, 2002 i can understand why singapore couldn't have that kind of road..... 1. landspace limit....where do u need to go travelling at high speed.....we don't have interstates issue....inter - constituency is less than 10km i reckoned 2. drivers are all young, fast and dangerous.....oh my god ......this is going to be a hell road if they starts off.....old man don't dare to drive on the road liao.....or even get near to it....... 3. it will cause more accidents than reducing it...... Selespeed156 Neutral Newbie December 6, 2002 Share December 6, 2002 Guys, I have traveled to some parts of Europe and US for overseas assignment quite often and I must say, high speed driving in these places (not only in Autobahn), are a common practice only because of the driving culture and attitude these Europeans have. You will be impressed by their driving manners e.g.: moving to the slower lane immediately after over-taking giving way to filtering vehicle in front over-taking only on the overtaking lane etc. etc without these good practices, its very dangerous to have "Autobahns" Imaging having our Singaporean drivers (I am not classifying all of us, but most) on these roads without cultivating the right driving practices.... Fuel in Europe is very expensive, thus diesel is a very popular option to save money. Diesel in most part of Europe cost as much as our Petrol. Imagine how much their Petrol would cost. AMG has come up with the "World's First Diesel Sports Car" : AMG C30 CDI Sport Coupe! AMG stroked MB's 270 CDI engine to 3 litres, and with the help of a turbo-charger, squeezed 226 bhp @ 3800rpm!!! AND, 398lb ft or torque @ 2500rpm!!!!!! That's even 18% more torque than the mighty S500!!! Given the much smaller and lighter MB C Sports Coupe body, performance must really be in Porsche Boxster territory. But think of what you're already doing at 3000rmp!!! Now, where's that autobahn... Selespeed156 Neutral Newbie December 9, 2002 Share December 9, 2002 I'm not trying to "flame" anyone here but.... having driven in various countries often in the past 2 years, I find it more frustrating to drive in Singapore (excluding jams in the cities which are more common in other countries)... the driving habit in Taiwan is somewhat similar to Singapore.... wonder if there is any cultural similarities ...then again, it could be due to my habit of driving faster than the average road user..... But, all I ask is the courtesy of giving way on the right lane for the overtaking traffic...... the thing is, they insisted on traveling on the right lane, at their own pace.... Then, there's those that would increase their speed to fill up the gap in front of them, , even if you have signaled for ages, that you have intended to filter into their lane, which was such big ample gap in between his/her car and the one in front!!!! In the western world, you get your way fairly quickly....... Such basic road manners and habits lead to less accidents and frustrations.... sorry guys.... just venting my frustrations, I meet such incidents very often in our roads...... Presea 3rd Gear December 9, 2002 Share December 9, 2002 (edited) I have to second that notion! Singaporean drivers generally don't have a proper sense of road-manners. Though not all are like that....especially us...here in MCF! Bad-Singapore-Driving Habits! Besides road hogging, and gap filling....there are: 1) Zig-Zag Drivers while travelling at 60kmh or less, these drivers can't seem to decide on their lane choice, and without signalling, swerve from one lane to another. 2) Instant Lane Filter Driver - cum brake tester! No signalling, just cutting suddenly in front of your vehicle, and not realising that the lane has come to a halt, expecting you to reduce your braking distance by 1 car length (or more)... Often these drivers immediately cut out of the lane proceeding to cause further "road abuse" to another lane of drivers! 3) Lane Straddlers Like the zig-zag drivers, they can't decide on their lane of choice....and end up using the broken lines as the path of travel, effectively blocking off 2 lanes! (Taxi Drivers are the most common abusers!) 4) Cornering "Ace" While taking a corner, these drivers are unable to keep to their lanes, and end up using a cornering line through both (or more) lanes. They don't seem to realise that other road users are present! 5)...I'm sure there are more...please feel free to add on! I admit that if no other car is around, I can't bother if they do these things (although I don't do such things to prevent habit-building)... but when other cars are around them, they should be more conscientious!
