IKEA shopping experience

Hi all,

Have any of you ever experienced anything like I had at a checkout/cashier counter?

The Sunday evening today, my Missus and I were at the Alexandra's outlet checking out items on offer. We had a pleasant 2hrs of browsing and picking out stuff we needed. Everything went swimmingly well until we were at a queue to pay for the stuff.

When it was our turn, a lady approached the cashier with a query or two. The two of them were engaged in a conversation and the cashier asked me to wait when i protested.

That's when I heard she uttered " she's our big customer "

My Missus was equally shocked when she asked me what happening and I repeated the exact same thing to her. All the while when she was looking for her supervisor for assistance, she acted as if she had done no wrong.

It was all over in maybe about 10 minutes. When it was time to serve me a.k.a " a small customer" she kept apologising,to her credit, but I was too miffed to react to her apologies.

Would anyone react differently or how would any of you respond in this kind of situation?

Just write in to complaint. I think her name should be printed on the receipt...otherwise, just provide the co. with the counter no. time and date.

Depends how upset I am about this incident, if upset enough, I'll complain to the management.

But I must say this kind of things happen quite frequently to me (although not for 10minutes), most of the time just let it go...

I got that yesterday.

It was at a Watson.

Both a lady and I came to the cashier, so I gentlemen, let her go first lah.

That's when things started to happen.

OMG, she is shopping at the cashier. asking cashier this and that, getting addition items, and changing I item which I could not remember what was that. But the poor cashier have to revert and void the previous entry.

I was waiting and fuming up. but still under control.

bad luck, sometimes it's just one of the day.

Just ask her....How big is big?....If so big, why serve her in the open?...should bring her to VIP room....don't block small customers like you....

ignore the big customer kena F!@#ed by management and fired. ignore the small customer kena complain and demoted. at least she apologise profusely ma, somethings she cannot help it, maybe management has specific instructions for the cashiers to serve their major customers first? She just doing her job as she was trained to.

Yeah, maybe.

1. She looked for a supervisor to help out

2. She apologised to you

Sounds like she balanced things as well as could be expected at the time,

No matter what she did, one party would have been pissed off, it seems that she was doing her very best to serve both at the same time and minimise inconvenience.

So probably let it pass - if anything more than that, I'd be pissed at the "big customer" that behaved like a "big shot" putting the poor cashier into a no-win situation

This incident sounded so much like our SPF incident earlier where the police operator told the caller, "if you don't help us to help you, how can we help you?"

The Ikea staff mishandled the case when she chose the wrong kind of response to reasoned out of the unwanted interruption.

Proper training is required to make them handle similar cases more efficiently.
