HELP! Coolant reservior empty

Hi JohnChong,

 

Maybe you would like to change your coolant level before your start your car. It should be between the max and min level. Over filling the coolant(especially top guys at the petrol kiosk) can also over flow as water expand when heated up, hence your reading might be correct.

 

On the same note on heated up, this happens to many Japanese car as they do not have the fan running even when the car shut down to cool the car down. Especilly on a hot day and you have a non stop high throttle condition. The sudden stopping will also create this overflow.

 

Or did you tighten your coolant reservoir.

Yours open or closed system? Open meaning this: Radiator got radiator cap and coolant reservoir also got cap. Closed system means like mine lah: Coolant reservoir cap is radiator cap.

 

The first one quite easy but there are ways to make it easier. If need to be easier, need a bit of technical finesse to remove the thermostat.

The best is 50-50 for best protection and cooling efficiency and overboil protection. The problem is when you do not know what coolant is already inside and you mixed 2 different types of coolant. This will screw the coolant system up.

 

Search for posts on G-05 or G05 I forgot. I posted some info on the different coolant mixtures. Longlife coolant the most lasting but you got to keep monitoring.

Slow long way:

 

1. When engine is cool, drain radiator from radiaotor stopc0ck (you have to locate it first).

 

2. Fill with distilled water.

 

3. Start engine and run around a while.

 

4. Wait for engine to cool and repeat step one to 3 maybe 2-3 times.

 

5. If draining some sediment comes out the first time round. Use radiator acid flush.

 

After the 2-3 times flush. Add premixed 50-50 coolant into radiator and top up some in the reservoir.

 

Fast way:

 

Remove thermostat. Connect T-joint and back flush with hose. Make sure radiator cap opened as well. Drain radiator from stopc0ck. Put back thermostat. Add 50-50 coolant mix. Top up some in reservoir.

If I got jackstands even better. Can drain from radiator and also drain from engine block. It will be faster as well.

 

For GMDAT car, easier. Closed system just drain with engine running lor!

Hold on! first thing first is to check if SA changes waterpump when the 60k timing belt change comes up. I doubt they do that. Waterpumps don't give problems if the coolant is well prepared to prevent corrosion.

 

I'm now reading on the timing belt change. Looks very simple.
