so assume my car's powerband is 6500.

at a standstill, i.e, traffic light, in order to have the fastest pickup, do i clutch in, engage 1st gear, rev till 6500, lights turned green, release cluth and go?

hi... some more questions...

what are the mods available to really increase performance in a car?

i mean the basic is intake/header/exhaust. after that, what else? besides tc/sc/nos.

wats a monster capsule?

allow me to give a better understanding abt powerband.....every car are design to rev to a limit at abt 6000-7000 depending on cars....however, to further understand abt powerband, u don't really need the mathematical numbers unless u are a hardcore or too much money don't know where to spend kind....

talking back, when your car is on a stand still and u starts to launch off, supposing u have upshift to 3rd gear, as u are accelerating, u can see that your rpm is climbing proportional to your speed......go all the way, and u will eventually realise that till certain rpm your car cannot speed up any further, at that point u will have to change gear.....that is your limit of the powerband.....and from that rpm onwards, no matter how much u accelerate, the speed will only be climbing up slowly......meaning u will have to upshift your gearing to give it more ratio to turn your drive shaft.....

further to this, every car has a sweet spot....that is to say for example if u are maintaining in the zone of 4000-6000 rpm zone, u will feel that the car has got the torque to accelerate easier.....which comes to another theory of heel toe technique....which race drivers always like to use so that they can maintain within the powerband or sweet spot region....

one more thing to add, although the car spec. claimed that they have 100 ponies, it doesn't mean that u will get 100 ponies as there is also transmission lost such as gearing/ drive shaft etc.....the ponies that u will actually get on the wheel will have to reduce by 20-25% of the horsepower.....ended up with only 80 ponies and also the weight of the car has to be factor into your car performance.....if you have a 300bhp car, but it weighs abt 3 tonne, that is equivalent to 100 bhp/tonne....alternatively, if u have only 150bhp car but it weighs only 900kg.....what do u think abt the performance of this car....... [thumbsup][thumbsup][sweatdrop][sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

hope that i'm able to clarify some of your doubts...... [:)]

hahaha, that is a very technical question which have to be answered by continous practising.......

take for example, when we were in training school, the first lesson will be feeling the biting point.....instructor will always tell us to accelerate to abt 2.5k rpm and starts to release the clutch abit rite.....that is the biting point.....

coming back to launch a car, u want to launch off your car at a sweet spot that allow maximum transmission of power onto the wheel, without spinning the tires...alot of factors has to be considered.....

1. tires traction.....best with semi slick but very kui [:p]

2. shifting gear at super duper speed.....rather tricky but can be done....

3. revving of rpm.....this is the most difficult part.....some car can launch off rapidly at 3000 rpm but some will need 4000 rpm.....all these are without spinning of tires.....if u spin your tires and move off, equal to nothing lah....that shows that your car got power but lousy driver....cos he don't know how to deliver the power onto the wheels and onto the tarmac.....need alot of practise to get this ride....launching off a car doesn't mean u have to rev to 7000 rpm but rather a technique to deliver the most power onto your wheel and onto the tarmac...... recently i tried.. 1st gear pick up, shift 2nd gear. then wheel spin.

hahaha, why 2nd gear? where did i go wrong?
