Hi Guys,

Have you ever notive that our spare tyre is of full size. By that I mean it is the same as the 4 running wheels. I have seen the spare tyres for Matrix, Civics and even some BMW that the spare tyre is way smaller. looks more like for motorcycles.

Anybody know where we can get the smaller version spare tyre. This would help to reduce the weight of the Optra and lower FC if possible.

Why you want to do that?

Most likely diff size cos the owners upgraded their wheels but didn't change the stock spare of 14". Wonder what will happen if the tires busted and need to change? Can run on different size?

No no no. It's the stock spare tyre from dealer. If you don't believe me, just pop by kah motor or komoko and have a look at the spare tyre.

Because the spare wheel well is designed for a full size tire, you may have problem support the floor board if you fit a undersized run flat tire ! You are probably trying to save weight ? It would not make so much difference actually, the FC is sucks already !

yes Honda and Hyundai spare are really small and it only for temporary use and cannot travel more than 80km/h. Tried to get a picture from the net but only the spare for proton gen 2. Notice the tyre profile like m/bike tyre.

Those smaller tyres are space savers aka donuts. It saves space n lighter.

As long as u upgrade ur tires correctly; keeping the OD consistent, u'll not hv problem if u use the small tyres during emergency. Anyway its stated under LTA tat when one change tyre or rim, the OD must not be different. Guess not many actually ensure n ROV does really enforce tat to the extreme as well [:)]

these type u mean

for spare tyres take note

1) such mini donuts cannot take more than 60-80 km/h for more than 1 hr

2) they run at a very very high higher pressure than normal sized spares

3) spare tyres should be changed after 4-5 yrs if not used, and if u have used it before, must change after first 3yr of vehicle life as it will have hardened up

4) due to their size/footprint/threadblock , their sole purpose is getting u to nearest tyre repair joint, not driving around, i seen a volvo s80 2.5T driving with this from pie at simei all the way to pie clementi, u drive with such tyres u find ur steering/handling will be off, and more pronounced for bigger cars with bigger tyres, eg 235 in 17inch, and use these mini donuts

such ads in yahoo below, eg the one selling that pathetic tyre above, are a danger to public safety

Let the original tyre stay! No change to space saver.

Want to save a few Kilograms to get 0.1 hp increase but endanger your life?

The spare tyre is there for a reason.

The AUTOmobile designer & engineer tat built your car put the spare tyre there also to take impact upon collision from the rear.

It is able to take shock while at the same time retain the rear body structure of the car.

By taking out the spare wheel, you indirectly endanger your rear passenger during accident!

Pass massage around. PLEASE..
