Clusterbx Neutral Newbie January 13, 2006 Share January 13, 2006 Have a 'beginner' question here, hope you all don't mind. Is it ok to run the radio/player without starting the car? Is it also ok to run the 12V car vacuum cleaner without starting the car?

Clusterbx Neutral Newbie January 13, 2006 Share January 13, 2006 Thanks, RK98. Didn't know that on the hazards light for too long also cause car not to start... Once i forgot to switch it off and it went 'blink blink' for about 45 mins! Luckily manage to start on the first crank and moved off... maybe battery then new. Spango Clutched January 13, 2006 Share January 13, 2006 Every electronic item zaps the battery power when your engine is off... For that matter, I turn off my cabin light too!
Dkchong Neutral Newbie January 13, 2006 Share January 13, 2006 Yup, don't play play with the battery supply when your engine is off, especially if your's is more then a year old..I have a friend who's battery is only 1.5 years old. On hazard light for 30mins with engine off..The next thing he realize is that he cannot start the car. Battery totally flat...

Victor68 Turbocharged January 27, 2006 Share January 27, 2006 Like to share my little knowledge on batteries. The higher the AH (Ampere-hour) your battery the longer it can last. Always try to switch off everything (headlight, aircon, ICE) before you start your engine. Don't run anything if possible without the engine running. Last but not least which will determine the life of your batter other then maintenance, never start and stop your engine too often or within short driving distance. Your battery do not have time to charge back the high current drawn for starting the engine. Cars that run on longer distance will have a longer battery life. Hope I am technically correct on above. ↡ Advertisement
