Rolla Neutral Newbie April 15, 2006 Share April 15, 2006 What rims are u using? stock or upgraded? I thought Airwave can reached at least 14-16km/l cheers Upgraded my stock rims to 16 inch and now doing about 14km/l(60% city). Currently, using 5W50 engine oil and was told this affect the FC a bit. Will change to 5w40 on my next oil change to see if my FC improves cos I was doing about 16km/l b4 my first 1000km servicing. ↡ Advertisement
Jamstart 1st Gear April 16, 2006 Share April 16, 2006 16" and still getting 14km/l, this is amazing.
Teammax Neutral Newbie April 16, 2006 Share April 16, 2006 Rolla, Wat tyre profile u using? 205/45? Am thinking of upgrading to 16" rim too. they recomment 205/45/16 but the tyre looks alittle bit small. Was wondering if it is okie to go for 205/50/16? I am still on stock rims and tyre and FC at 15pluskm/l (50%city). Cheers
Rolla Neutral Newbie April 16, 2006 Share April 16, 2006 Hi Teammax, Mine is 205/45/16 and agreed that they do look a bit small due to the profile. 205/50/16 should be better in terms of looks as well as the ride too.. Cheers!
Gene2 Neutral Newbie April 16, 2006 Share April 16, 2006 But it'll give a different rolling resistance liao if you do not use the correct profile leh. The error in the speed reading will be higher, higher fuel consumption and i think it's bad for the car. Anyway, just back from a trip to Genting via Airwave. 4 full size adults with a couple of backpacks, therefore total gross weight should be around 1350kg. Highway, Airwave (stock) was quite ok, but very noisy, the culprit being tyres. Wind noise was very apparant at the front at >120km/h. Steering a bit lifeless and too light for 140km/h, thus doesn't inspire confidence. Probably because the steering is an electrical set-up if i am not wrong. Engine is lacking in torque, thus need a little planning to overtake. I overtook a tour coach at 140km/h, and the car was pushed to the right slightly. That's normal for a car of this size, but anybody knows how to minimize such an effect, like does lowering the car helps etc? Average fuel consumption on meter was 15km/L, engine speed hovering between 3000-4000rpm as constant revving needed to overtake or to keep up with speed (3100rpm ~120km/h, 4000rpm ~ 140km/h). Estimated top speed of vehicle ~165km/h at 6200rpm. Going up mountain, Airwave was better than my previous ride, the Sunny. It had the potential to go up strongly, but i didn't want to stress the engine too much. Only pushed it real hard towards the peak of the mountain as i had to overtake a number of tour coaches at very tight and steep bends. I floored the throttle all the way, and the engine revved to a maximum of 5000rpm. I was surprised it didn't rev beyond 5000rpm. And all the while, gear was in D. But flooring the throttle all the way allowed me to overtake the tour coach at the very steep yet tight bend safely. This is the report from my Genting trip. I saw a Silver Airwave at the First World Hotel too.
Airwave001 Neutral Newbie April 16, 2006 Share April 16, 2006 Yes, this car does have wind noise. Was oredi experiencing it at 110km/h. Thot it was my visor. Not lacking in torque i guez, the spec for vtec engine needs 4800rpm to reach max torque and because of weight, we might be experiencing slower pickup than say, a mazda 2. Even our cousin city i-dsi max torque at 2700rpm! Btw, wat engine oil are you using?
Airwave001 Neutral Newbie April 16, 2006 Share April 16, 2006 Before i fix my 205/45/16, mechanic told me this is the best they could use. Anything thicker might cause abrasion when seated with passenger. Dunno how true leh...
Teammax Neutral Newbie April 17, 2006 Share April 17, 2006 Thats what i was told too. But when i used those "converters" that bros here recommend to check the tyre profile when upgrading, the difference is only ard 3% leh. even a FIT/Jazz can use 205/50/16 (i was spying on all the fit/jazz at my place for the tyre profile ). Will check again wif the mechanics when changing. Cheers

Allan2082 Neutral Newbie April 18, 2006 Share April 18, 2006 Edwin, You right. PI gave mat is the lowest grade. I had upgrade to 3M mat. Cost $100/-. Bought from our member Speed Ong.
Jomartin Neutral Newbie April 19, 2006 Share April 19, 2006 Hi does the mat comes in red??? I love Red mats...
Gene2 Neutral Newbie April 19, 2006 Share April 19, 2006 Oh, mine is also 3M. But they are a bit big for the front floors.. and the back is too small.. LOL... but anyway, i like them. So easy to clear dirt from the mats and it's so soft. Always drive bare footed when i'm in slippers. Bought at about $130 for the full set. Then i used the original mats which came with the Airwave for the boot. ALl 4 mats can cover the boot area if you spread them out nicely.
