Hi all,

I've got this ignition problem when sometimes the car just refused to start even i hold the ignition for more than 5s....

It just feel like the fuel pump not working as fuel are not going in...and sometimes even can hear a 'png' sound from the engine area before the thing start...

Sent the car to SA for two times, and they can't find any problem.... they think i too free to keep sending the vehicle there for nothing...

Only at the second time the tech ask me whether I've pump any shell petrol, and acconding to him, the car will encounter this problem onli if pumping with shell...

and i did sometimes pump shell v-power with the purpose of cleaning up the engine...

Is it really true that shell petrol will cause this problem with chevy?

The mystery goes on...

think better change to a fuel friendly car soon....

Change to other brands and test for at least 2-3 tankfuls. You will get your answer after that. No one here will tell you if Shell is indeed the cause, can get sued without further investigations and tests.

Haha.... Ya...got legal consequences...

But we didn't mention what and what is not good... did we?

The thing here is that I just want to verify what the mech at SA told me is indeed logical anot? Cos most of the chevyians are getting quite pissed off by the unresolved problems. Hope this doesn't hurt... [sweatdrop]

I neber go JB pump...

Find it not worth the trip...

A quarter tank minus the toll and trip is not worth for a tiny tank like mine...

dun think petrol's related to engine starting/ignition problem...most of the time pple complains lesser power...or responsive..or engine 'knocking' if the octane is lower than engine requirement [;)]

Agree with you. Sounds like an ignition problem (spark plug, iginition coil, etc), or starter/battery, rather than the brand of fuel...or ron for that matter.

your car cannot go below 91 octane.. it will knock... minimum 95...

any brand is okay... blame to car , not the petrol... tell the technican who told you that.. or blame the technicain that he cannot diagonise the root problem...!

Note that the person who posted the following did not mention the brand name of the fuel. Like I said, you decide after switching to other brand. What do you have to lose to try that out?

I notice the mileage of Shell on my car is also reducing... The engine noise is louder....

Hey, that's what I'm encountering too..... wondering why recently the noise level has gone up, like I need to push the engine harder..... and worst, my fc has gone up slightly.

I usually start engine only after system have completed the functional check (e.g. ABS, air bag, brake, etc) and seem with no problem, did you happan to start engine before system check has completed.

i also did not face such problem. Since i took over in NOv 04, i have pumped Mobil/SPC/Shell/Caltex but never faced this problem. Although after pumping caltex, i felt some harshness. Other than this, every thing was alright.

Hi, I took over my Optra in Dec 03 and have been pumping 95/98. Engine stalled/pull back while moving off is my common morning sickness. SA changed MITA, fuel pump, reset ECU, changed the circuit box and reprogram my keys, etc, still the same problems. I even leave my Optra for them 7 working days to rectify the problems. Still the same.

Till Feb 05, the mechanic told me why not you switch to other brand petrol and test for a few tanks then feedback to them on the result.

After I switched to Esso/Mobil 5000 since Feb 05, I do not encounter any morning sickness. [bounce2]

Could it because the engine oil used is Mobil 1 full syn oil??? [confused][shakehead]

I am still sticking to Shell,,since it is very near my home. Now I am trying out Shell 95,,,previously was either 92 or 98 (when there is big promotion).

Let me guess what happen. It is not the brand you pump but rather the station you pump your petrol. Obviously, once you change your brand, you don't go to the same petrol station right.

Due to the location and the maintenance of the underground tanks, there will be water content in the petrol storage tanks. If water is being pumped into your little tank, starting is definitely a problem. When engine is hot and running, even if you mix kerosene to your engine, it will still runs.

Best to pump at petrol station sitting on higher ground and newer one. [nod]
