  1. Take note if you had topped up Shell 95 petrol at the Seletar Hill Shell petrol station along YCK -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A manager found his car vibrating uncontrollably, as if "the engine was about to explode", after it was topped up with petrol that had been mixed with water, a report said yesterday. Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao reported that Mr Chen had made a trip to the Seletar Hill Shell petrol station in Yio Chu Kang Road at around 9pm on Monday to refuel his car before heading home. But upon reaching his block in Hougang, the 46-year-old's car started to shake, and the engine began rumbling. The intense shaking of his car, coupled with the noise it was making, made it seem as if the car's fan-belt was about to snap and the engine about to explode, he said. "It was quite terrifying," Wanbao quoted Mr Chen as saying. "At first I thought my car engine was faulty and planned to send it for repair. But at about 2pm the next day when I wanted to drive out to the repair shop, I found I couldn't start my car," he said. "I thought my car had broken down but later I received a call from the petrol station asking if I had refilled my tank there the night before." The petrol station's staff reportedly told Mr Chen that there was a problem - without specifying what it was - and that he had to take the car back for repairs. Mr Chen told the paper that industry experts he spoke to suspected that the petrol pumped into his car had been mixed with water, causing the engine to act up. The petrol station reportedly received complaints from several car owners that there was an issue with the petrol. The paper reported that it remains unclear whether the problem had been caused by an individual or by heavy downpours. Shell was reported to have confirmed that water got into one of its Shell FuelSave 95 petrol tanks at its Seletar Hill outlet. A spokesman said it has stopped selling petrol from that particular tank and that other tanks have not been affected. Shell was said to have started an in-depth investigation into the matter.
  2. Hoping to reach people who might have experienced my problem yesterday. I pumped petrol yesterday morning 30 May, topping up with octane 98 fuel at a certain petrol station in Northeastern part of S'pore. Car engine has been working perfectly with no issue whatsover before and was serviced 2 weeks before. Car engine vibrated violently and stalled after leaving petrol station less than 1 km. Car is stranded in the middle of the road and could not move. Had the car towed to agent's workshop as my car is just over 1 1/2 yrs old. By afternoon, it was discovered that my petrol tank contained 'a lot of water' with the petrol in the tank. Reported to petroleum company yesterday evening. They conducted an investigation by taking samples from the storage tank of said petrol station but reported to me and the workshop this afternoon that intitial study done and said 'nothing wrong with the petrol'. I insisted that they send somebody down to my workshop and look at the car's damage and evidence. And I should think there should be more victims out there because that is a popular petrol station in a middle class housing estate, which has undergone massive renovation works for weeks and just reopened for business yesterday 30 May. If any driver reading this thread, has similar experience with engine stalling soon after pumping petrol yesterday, please PM me to verify whether we had top-ups at the same petrol station. No jokes or unsavoury comments please. Thank you.
  3. http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...324-269935.html The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) today announced that it will extend its suspension on the import of all fruits and vegetables to include Chiba and Ehime with immediate effect. Four samples of vegetables tested were found to contain radioactive contaminants. These were imported from the affected prefectures of Tochigi and Ibaraki, as well as Chiba and Ehime which are outside the affected areas. 161 samples of fresh produce such as seafood, fruits, vegetables and meat have been tested to date. From the shipment imported yesterday, the following were found to be contaminated: Mitsuba (Japanese wild parsley), Nanohana (Rape seed plant), Mizuna (Japanese mustard), and Perilla Leaf. All the affected shipment have been detained and will be disposed of. There is no cause for alarm, however, as an adult would need to consume 3.5 kg of these vegetables to receive a similar level of radiation exposure from one x-ray. According to the Ministry of Health, the short-term consumption of food at these detected levels of radioactive contamination does not pose a health hazard. AVA will continue to closely monitor and test food imports from Japan, and has extended the testing of food products from Japan to include high risk processed food such as infant formula and fresh dairy products such as milk, yogurt and cream.
  4. CNA reports : Two Australian rescuers contaminated in Japan SYDNEY: Two Australian search and rescue personnel showed low levels of radiation contamination after their helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in Fukushima on Wednesday. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said contamination was detected on their boots after ice on the helicopter blades forced them to land some 20 kilometres (12 miles) outside the exclusion zone around the Fukushima nuclear plant. "I have been briefed that early this morning a US helicopter carrying four Australians and some New Zealand personnel had to land at Fukushima airport. There were issues about ice on on the rotor blades," she said. "The landing was 20 kilometres outside of the evacuation zone. "All members of the team have now travelled back to where our search and rescue team are working. "On return two of the team were tested for contamination and they showed low levels of contamination on their boots. "They went through decontamination procedures and the advice to me is they are well and the degree of contamination was low level and on their boots." Some 145 Australians remain unaccounted for in Japan since Friday's massive earthquake and tsunami, although there have been no confirmed casualties so far. 5. http://voanews.com/english/2008-09-13-voa26.cfm China Detains 19 After 432 Babies Poisoned by Contaminated Milk Powder By VOA News 13 September 2008 Chinese authorities say they have detained 19 people after at least 432 babies developed kidney stones blamed on contaminated milk powder. A senior Health Ministry official told reporters Saturday that authorities ordered the Sanlu Group, which produced the contaminated milk powder, to stop production. China's official Xinhua news agency said police are questioning 78 suspects in the city of Shijiazhuang, where Sanlu is based. Investigators say dairy farmers may have added a dangerous chemical to milk linked to one infant death and the other illnesses. Xinhua said Friday that investigators suspect farmers added the chemical to conceal that water added to the milk. The chemical melamine would make the milk appear to have a higher protein content. An official who is part of the nationwide probe said Friday that those responsible for the contamination will face severe punishment. The company blamed its suppliers for the contamination. But a Chinese media report on Friday said Sanlu knew about the problem in August and decided not to inform the public. Sanlu waited until it became the target of a government investigation to announce that it found melamine in its products. The company issued a recall on Thursday for about 700 tons of baby formula produced before August 6th. Sanlu is a leading maker of dairy products and is partly owned by New Zealand company Fonterra. Reports say some of the products could have made their way into overseas markets. Melamine is used in plastics, fertilizers and flame retardants. Some information for this report provided by AP. ---------------- better play safe dun let ur bb drink any bovine milk fr china.
