  1. OK, I decide to invest in a set of cheap Autolite copper plugs. Side gap them, regap them to 0.88mm (original 1.02mm but side gap must reduce the gap a little). Index the plugs. Fire them up and the low RPM is almost as good as my side gapped Nology plugs. Even better than the stock gapping (Nology run very little gap, I think its just 0.7mm). Denso IK24 at 0.8mm. A bigger gap is always better for power but it will tend to misfire at high RPM or high boost unless you are using CDI. I have yet to test the high end but if you want cheap low end power, just side gap your copper plugs. Life span will of course be shorter since the grounding tip is no longer covering the center electrode. However, you can always regap them after sometime. Just invest in a file and a spark plug gapping tool (to accurately the gap).
  2. OK, I have decide to try out the plugs and see all the "performance claims" myself. Bought a set of it and install into my car. Previously using Denso IK24. Initial impression is, well engine felt smoother which is pretty much in tune with what happens when you install a new set of plugs (My Denso plugs are around 1000KM old only). There is definitely a little more power at low RPM (between 1-2K RPM) compared to the Denso plugs. Its not surprising since there is no 5K ohms resistor to suck power. The difference gets more pronounced when I turned on the AC. There is less vibration at low RPM esp. when dragging the engine. Overall, there is some improvement but not much. I don't know if it worth the extra premium over the Iridium plugs. I will have to monitor the FC and see what happens. Right now I am hovering at a very steady 7.5KM/L. I pump once a week and my daily routes and even traffic lights timing are very fix. So, I can monitor my FC very accurately. One thing I didn't do is to measure the gap. My Denso are using 0.8mm gap. I will have to take out to measure it at some point of time. One side effect I did notice is my tachometer gets a little erractic. It may jump a little during idle. As expected, plugs w/o resistor will produce more noise and my tacho signal is wired directly to the -ve terminal on my ignition coil. I do have a variable resistor attached to it, will have to adjust to compensate for the noise. At least the plugs didn't seems to affect my Vipec ECU which could result in erratic A/F ratio or misfiring etc. Hopeully, it stays that way in the long run. I have yet to try high RPM to see if it runs well. Thats all for my initial review of the Nology plugs. If you also using the same plugs or some other plugs, just post your experience here
  3. OK, after some experimentation, I have come up with 2 ways to maximise performance of these nology plugs and you can confirm feel them when you install back the plugs. 1. Side gaping. The classic side gapping. Just take a file and slow file away part of the ground tip to expose the center electrode. 2. Increase gap. I realies the Nology plugs have very small gaping. Whats the point of having more powerful sparks with the gap is so small? I increase it to 0.030" (0.75mm). The low end power is immediately obvious. The car ran much smoother even with aircon on can I can shift at just 1.8K RPM with hardly any vibration on engine going uphill (its just a gentle slope near my house but I gone thru it countless times to test low end). High end is also better can feel the car accelerating faster than before w/o flooring. However, the plugs have one side effect, it doesn't work well for Turbo engines. My Denso are running at 0.8mm gap and I don't have misfiring problems at 5K RPM. However, the nology start misfiring at around 4K RPM if I floor the accelerator (even when I have a MSD coil) I have yet to reduce the gap as I am too lazy to take out the plugs again. NA cars shouldn't have such problem because you will never go above 0 bar. I have a new much more powerful CDI coil and N&W CDI Pro 10 coming so I will see if it can overcome this misfiring issue. Will update again. So is Nology worth it? Thats the big big question. My answer is........ well.......fairly ok. IF you want to eek up every ounce of performance out of your engine, its worth spending the money and its cheaper investment than going CDI and new coils. Btw, the same mods applies to all other plugs as well. It doesn't mean you need a nology in order to side gap it and adjust the gaping. I believe if I increase my Denso to 1mm gap, I may achieve the performance close to the Nology but I may have misfiring problems as well. Well, there is no best of both worlds.

  5. Wondering which is a better product in term of delivering the most electricity to the plug for most complete combustion? 4 ways BRISK spark plug, Nology Hotwires or a Spark optimizer. Or they can actually co-exist with each other to provide the most efficient and consistent electricty charges? Please advise me. Thank you very much. Regards,
