  3. Just came home from a late night supper and something i experienced on the way back give me the urge to pen here for a general discussion. Usually I do not drive fast unless there is urgent things and i believe this should be the general case for all other motorists. so here is what i just experienced. Was coming back from Woodlands via SLE TPE to Seng Kang cos need to send gf home. As it was quite late so I decided to drive faster. After i enter SLE, i filter to the rightmost lane before picking up speed. In a distance was a VW in rightmost lane and a Subaru in the center lane. As i approach nearer, the VW decided to pick up speed and the Subaru also decided to pick up speed. And suddenly they were like trying to outrun each other like a drag race with each other side by side. This carry on for probably few mins before the Subaru exited SLE. I was behind the VW all the while but not tailgating. Then the VW carry on accelerating until a point where he probably felt it was too fast so he filter and let me pass. In my head > Did i indirectly caused the 2 cars to drive faster than they would originally have? > If so, it will be interesting to know what they are thinking that led to this actions. I am skewed towards thinking that they are going faster because they wants to be in the front but not that they are in a hurry.

  5. editorque My dad is a driving legend. Not in that Aryton Senna kind of way, but as far as I can remember, he was and still is the smoothest driver I know. My fondest recollection stem from the numerous scuffles I used to have with my brother - in the back seat his trusty Ford Escort. He would drive, talk to my Mum and simultaneously smack us from the front, without missing a beat. That man gave new meaning to the term 'driving discipline'. He has also never, I repeat never, lost his way before. no matter the location, terrain and sans map, my dad would find his destination. He was also one of those drivers that could put anyone to sleep when he drove. From grandma, to cousins and of course my brother and me, we all had at one time or another, fallen into a drooling slumber from his silky smooth handling. In fact my Dad, to me is the epitome of the 'steady driver'. His adamant refusal to use the horn has also shaped my own dislike, for horn-happy road bullies. So much so, that my wife sometimes smacks the horn on my behalf - from the passenger's seat. Six years of driving experience later, I'm still nowhere near my Dad's skill when he was my age. Then again, when he was 30, he already had two kids. Then it hit me, my Dad isn't a good driver - he's a family driver. he drives the way he does because his family's life depend on it. Man... that makes him even more 'steady'... So drive safe Dads. Ignore the punk who overtakes you. Just make sure everyone gets home safe and warm. And if you can, senenade the kids to sleep with your driving. I assure you, they'll remember that nap for the rest of their lives.
