  1. Must be a major blow to some of the 95 kids who thought they had make it. Basically from euphoria to despair If only this mistake could be the other way round, that they actually made it instead of couldn't... From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1243599/1/.html 95 students wrongly informed about eligibility for polytechnic programme By TODAY | Posted: 19 December 2012 2028 hrs SINGAPORE - A "system error" resulted in 95 students who were not eligible for the Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) being issued eligibility forms, said the Ministry of Education (MOE) on Wednesday. "On 17 December 2012, after the release of the GCE 'N' Level results, a system error was discovered, which had resulted in 271 students being issued eligibility forms for PFP with wrongly-computed ELMAB3 aggregate scores stated on these forms," said the MOE in a statement. The system double-counted grades for subjects that the student had sat for at the actual 'N' Level and 'O' Level Preliminary examinations, although each subject should only be counted once, with the better of the two grades being used. The PFP is a one-year programme that offers a practice-oriented curriculum to better prepare Normal (Academic) students for entry into the relevant Polytechnic Diploma courses. The MOE said it took "immediate steps" to address the situation. On Tuesday, it started calling each of the 271 affected students to inform them of the error. As of 5.45pm Wednesday, 256 students had been successfully contacted and 15 were unreachable. "MOE regrets the inconvenience caused by this error. We understand the disappointment of the affected students who were given application details for the PFP but are actually not eligible, as well as their parents' disappointment," said the ministry. All 95 affected students who are not eligible for the PFP may progress on to Secondary Five, or apply for the Direct Entry Scheme to Polytechnics (DPP) if they meet the DPP eligibility criteria, said the MOE. - TODAY/ir
  2. Mistakes do happen but unforgivable if one never acts on it despite being notified. Can emphatise with the SPT's fustration... From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Online...ory_706271.html Motorist fined wrongly, then let off out of 'goodwill' I AM a resident of Marine Drive and pay for my HDB season parking via Giro monthly. On Monday morning, I discovered a parking fine on my windshield, offering a compounded settlement fee of $50 for not having a valid season parking permit. The offence was recorded at 4.26am by the reporting officer. The initial letters of the vehicle licence plate in the fine was noted as SFC, while mine starts with SFV. That mistake, together with the fact that I have been settling my season parking through Giro for the past four years, naturally baffled me. I wrote in to the Housing Board and Wilson Parking (the latter issued the fine) on the same day and received an e-mail reply from HDB on Thursday. The Geylang branch officer noted that I had committed an offence by parking without a valid season parking permit. The HDB reply also stated that it would waive the fine this time but will not do so again. The reply was baffling especially as I did not commit the offence and HDB and Wilson Parking obviously got the vehicle number wrong. Yet it was made to seem as if they were waiving the fine out of goodwill. Sandra Ng (Ms)
  3. I just helped my dad to file his tax and I can't help notice that his tax payable is much higher than mine cos...... he is over 60 and he does not pay much CPF to offset his tax assessable income. Am I right in this assessment? Have u noticed the same? Any tax experts here? I notice lots of younger folks pay less than 30K assessable income as the CPF deduction is high.
  4. Today's newspaper printed the Mercedes Benz SLS-AMG is a 3.6-V8,but actually it is a 6.3-V8....
  5. I just recd a TP summon for parking within 9 metres of a bus stop at Hougang Ave 8 which I did not commit. Few month ago, I recd a summon for parking along // yellow line at Whampoa Road which I did not commit. For the earlier summon, I went to TP HQ and made a complaint and recd a letter from TP apologizing for a DATA ERROR. (I still have the letter from TP with me.) I wish to point out that the moment I entered the room, I questioned the POLICE SERGEANT that were there cases that summons were wrongly issued. His reply was a very firm "POSSIBLE" I will make another trip to TP HQ to file another complaint for this new summon. The BIG QUESTION now is : 1) Is there a car with a FAKE NOS PLATE that is similar to mine? 2) How RELIABLE are these OUT-SOURCED TRAFFIC WARDENS ??? Any bros here who encountered similar problems?

  8. Hi all MCF shifus,I need some advice from you guys badly.Below is my unfortunate encounter. On 13/8/2007, at about 1000hrs,I proceeded to my car to do some minor touching up as it was being scratched. After having done that, I then proceeded on my way to the nearby Gek Poh Shopping Ctr to buy the day news and some foodstuff. I walked along the MSCP where my car was parked. I was proceeding towards the SC and was about to cross the road. At this junction,a chinese man dressed in office attire suddenly held my hand and stopped me. He then said the following: "Hello, you stop there, don't go, I'm going to call the police. You walked past my car and you scratched my car." I was totally taken aback. I then replied : "Hello, Mr, what are you talking about? I don't understand you at all. What do you mean by "I walked past your car, I scratched your car." He then said :"I saw you walked past my car, I heard a screeching sound and then my car got a long scratch mark, I was behind you." I replied :" Mr, you better know what you're talking about, You better got evidence and you better know what you're talking about." At this point, I was totally blurred. The chinese man then said :" You go see my car, you take out your keys." I replied:" Why should I take out my keys? I then followed him to his car, there was a long and very deep scratch on his car, I was totally shocked. I then looked at the damage and told him :" Mr, this is a very long and deep scratch, there is nothing with me right now that could possibly inflict such damage to your car. He then said :" No, I don't care, I'm going to call the police. I told him:" Fine, if you so wish, then go ahead. I then call my wife to proceed to the MSCP to be along with me. The police came, the chinese man told the police what happened. The male sgt then serach my pouch that I was carrying at that time, he inspected all my keys but could not find any black paint dust on their tip (in fact all my keys were very old and blurt) and the sharpest object I have is but a spectacles screwdriver. I told the police that I really did not scratch his car and there is nothing on me that could possibly leave such a damage. While the man is recording his stt with the female police sgt,my wife heard him saying that he was back from work at about 0530hrs and would leave about 1000hrs to work again. My wife's temper wasn't so good as mine and she gave the bugger a piece of her mind :"Hello, Mr, do you know that many things could have happened beteen that time and he cannot simply accused me of doing that to his car merely because I walked past his car. (I didn't really noticed that scratch on his car when I walked past it,think I was searching whether did I bring my wallet inside my pouch) My wife then overheard him telling the female police sgt that "It's all a misunderstanding". At this point in time, I suspect that he knew that the scratch was done much earlier, waiting for a scapegoat like me to walk past, then all throw onto my account. My wife told me confirmed he's putting the damage all on your account lah, just because you walked past his car!!! I really cannot believe such a thing can happened to me. In fact the male sgt told me, "Mr, in life this always happens, pple mistakes others. Now the boiling question is I will wait for investigation to be complete first, then I will take legal action against him. I'm no something famous/impt,but this is too much.I want to know what can I sue him for? Can it be Public Embrassment? Unnecessary duress? Anxiety caused to me and my family Defamation Kindly advice? Thanks in advance
