  1. Health experts are warning that a fatal infectious disease that is spreading across the country among deer, elk and moose may be transmittable to humans. Chronic wasting disease (CWD), which is described as a progressive, fatal disease that affects the brain, spinal cord and other tissues of animals, has been documented in at least 24 states as of January, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. The disease, which can take years for symptoms to appear after infection, is believed to spread through bodily fluids like feces, saliva, blood, or urine, by both direct and indirect contact in the environment. There are no treatments or vaccines. The symptoms, which have been compared to those of zombies, may include drastic weight loss, stumbling, lack of coordination, listlessness, drooling, excessive thirst or urination, drooping ears, lack of fear of people, and aggression. Though there have been no confirmed animal to human transmissions, some health officials, pointing to laboratory tests, say it may be only a matter of time. “It is probable that human cases of CWD associated with the consumption of contaminated meat will be documented in the years ahead,” Michael Osterholm, the director for the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease and Research Prevention, told Minnesota lawmakers on Thursday, according to the Twin Cities Pioneer Press. “It is possible that (the) number of human cases will be substantial and will not be isolated events.” Laboratory studies have shown that the CWD’s mutated protein, which is called a prion, is capable of infecting animals that carry human genes like squirrel monkeys, macaques, and lab mice, according to the CDC. It is possible that (the) number of human cases will be substantial and will not be isolated events. One study performed by German and Canadian scientists has also found that macaques could be infected by eating meat from infected deer or elk, as well as deer that had CWD but had yet to show symptoms. An earlier study did not confirm this transmission, however, the CDC said. “To date, there is no strong evidence for the occurrence of CWD in people, and it is not known if people can get infected with CWD prions,” the CDC’s website states. “Nevertheless, these experimental studies raise the concern that CWD may pose a risk to people and suggest that it is important to prevent human exposures to CWD https://sg.news.yahoo.com/experts-warn-fatal-zombie-deer-193709907.html
  2. Was watching the news 5 minutes ago. On New Year's Eve, a couple was attacked by their neighbour's German Shepherds when they walked pass his unit. The German Shepherds attacked the couple's child and puppy. The parents got badly bitten while trying to protect their kid and the puppy. According to the news, the owner of the German Shepherds could be fined UP TO $100 if he is found guilty for not leasing the dogs properly. $100? Isn't it too light a penalty?
  3. There are so many cases of animal abuse these days that I think these humans deserve all our respect to save our fur friends. If you come across any such videos, please share! Dog rescued from frozen river: Warming the rescued dog in the ambulance:

  6. The following post prompted me to create this poll. Should humans be allowed to play the role of God? Legalizing euthanasia would do just that! The power to play with people's lives should not be handed out under a legal and/or medical disguise. Thus euthanasia should not be legalized. The term 'Euthanasia' comes from the Greek word for 'easy death'. It is the one of the most public policy issues being debated about today. Also called 'mercy killing', euthanasia is the act of purposely making or helping someone die, instead of allowing nature to take its course. Basically euthanasia means killing in the name of compassion. On the contrary, it promotes abuse, gives doctors the right to murder and in addition, is contradictory to religious beliefs. "The respect that we owe the elderly compels me once again to raise my voice against all those practices of shortening life known as euthanasia.... Euthanasia is an attack on life that no human authority can justify, because the life of an innocent person is an indispensable good", the Holy Father said on Saturday, 31 October, to those attending an international conference on the elderly sponsored by the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health-Care Workers. The Pope spoke of respect for the elderly and encouraged families to benefit from the wealth of experience that their older members have to offer. Here is a translation of his address, which was given in Italian. Your Eminences, Remember when your parent held you in their arms? there are no economical input... you cry alot. but they held on to you lovingly. It brings tears to my heart to see someone even suggesting killing their own parents cause they are old.
