Security researcher Chris Moore has discovered that OnePlus' OxygenOS has quietly been collecting a ton of user data and transmitting it to a OnePlus server along with your phone's serial number. Moore detailed how OnePlus devices record data at various points, including when a user locks or unlocks the screen, which apps are opened, used, and closed, and which Wi-Fi networks the device connects to. While that's fairly standard, it's almost unheard of to tie that data to the phone’s IMEI, phone number, and mobile network names, which means the data can easily be traced back to you. According to Moore, the code responsible for the data collection is part of OnePlus Device Manager and OnePlus Device Manager Provider. Moore says in his case, the services had sent off 16MB of data in 10 hours. Responding to the controversy, OnePlus revealed it collects two streams of data from all users. The first is termed "usage analytics," which helps it to improve its software. It also adds that this type of data-sharing can be turned off by going into settings, selecting "advanced," and turning off "join user experience program." However, the second stream, which OnePlus refers to as "device information" can't be turned off. "We securely transmit analytics in two different streams over HTTPS to an Amazon server. The first stream is usage analytics, which we collect in order for us to more precisely fine tune our software according to user behavior. This transmission of usage activity can be turned off by navigating to 'Settings' -> 'Advanced' -> 'Join user experience program'. guys and gals, I encountered this recently. I noticed that for past 2 days, my house phone did not ring at all. I suspect something was wrong and called the house phone number with my HP. It did not ring. ****When I used the house phone to call my HP, to my horror, the number has been changed to another number***** I paid all my bills promptly and have been using this singtel line for the past 5years. Called the Singtel customer service and threatened to report this to the police, in case my original line was criminally used. Immediately the service guy came. He spent some time and inspected all the lines. He found the phone cables "joined up" in the next block of flats. What action can I take against singtel? This is the first time I encountered this sort of thing, cannot believe it.

Ferrari may ask the FIA for permission to make changes to its formula one engine on the grounds of reliability. Germany's Auto Motor und Sport magazine on Thursday said the Italian team's recent engine problems - including two failures for Fernando Alonso - have been identified. Reportedly, the problem - which could cost Alonso grid places later this season if he runs through his allocation of eight engines - is with the pneumatic valves. The report said too much air is escaping from the engine during the races, and because of the new regulations there is not enough time during the single pitstop to replenish the 2.4 litre V8s. Auto Motor und Sport said that if Ferrari can prove to the FIA that the engine is suffering a general reliability flaw, it may be granted a temporary exemption from the 'freeze' on engine development. The engines already used by Alonso and his teammate Felipe Massa, however, may not be altered.
