  1. Feeling the heat from Mercedes AMG A 45's 2.0-litre turbo unit, Audi is working to dial up more power and torque from its 2.5-litre five-cylinder TFSI engine. Stephan Reil, Head of Development of quattro GmbH, commented, "The five-cylinder engine will have a big future with us. But the numbers I see from AMG's engines are enormous from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder." AMG's power plant (below) produces 350bhp, which is only 10bhp behind the larger capacity unit from Ingolstadt. However, there is a tougher challenge awaiting Audi. The engine has to meet the tough EU 6 emissions standard in Europe by September 2014. This means that the engine's combustion processes and catalysts need to be heavily revamped, according to Reil. Audi's turbocharged 2.5-litre Inline five-cylinder currently powers the TT RS and RS3 models. Five-cylinder engines are noted for combining the best aspects of four and six-cylinder engines. They generate more power and torque than six-cylinder engines while maintaining the fuel economy and peppiness of smaller four-cylinder engines.
  2. Early this year, Audi mentioned that the company will reveal a more powerful Audi TT at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. If you are one of those who are eager to know what Audi have for us, you can stop waiting because the German auto company has officially revealed the most powerful TT variant ahead of its debut in Geneva next month and it is known as the TT RS Plus. Audi has made the TT RS into something like a baby R8; compact and fast. Under the hood is the same 2.5 litre turbocharged engine used in the normal TT RS model but it has been tuned to generate almost 360bhp with a torque of 465Nm. That is an increase of around 20bhp and 15Nm of torque. It is said that Audi is looking to challenge this model with rival cars like the Porsche Boxster S. The car is available in both coupe and roadster versions and potential buyers of the TT RS Plus have the choice of either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual clutch transmission (S-tronic). The dual clutch transmission comes installed with a launch control function. The car also gets the company
  3. The Audi TT RS is finally getting the VW Group's S tronic, 7-speed DSG gearbox. Audi has announced that the dual-clutch transmission will be available in the TT RS, both in the coupe and roadster variants, as of this month. The DSG gearbox promises to deliver improved fuel economy as the seventh gear comes with a long ratio to reduce engine speed with offers tons of torque on hand to keep the TT RS moving. The TT RS comes with a direct-injection, 2.5 liter, 5-cylinder turbocharged engine, which won the International Engine of the Year award for its category just this past June. The TFSI engine produces 340 PS and achieves a maximum torque of 450 Nm . Coupled to the S tronic, the TT RS now has a fuel economy rating of 8.5 liters/100 km with CO2 emissions of 197 g/km in the coupe variant. The century sprint for the DSG equipped TT RS coupe is 4.3 seconds as compared to 4.6 seconds for the 6-speed manual version. Top speed is an electronically limited 250 km/h, which can be optionally removed in certain markets.
  4. Audi and Volkswagen tuner ABT have upgraded their performance package for the Audi TT RS, enabling it to achieve near supercar levels of performance in terms of outright power. The previous iteration of the ABT TT RS developed 420bhp. Up from the standard 340bhp. Now, it packs 501bhp. Enough to make even a Porsche 911 Carrera feel like a Volkswagen Beetle. According to ABT, the TT RS allows the owner of such a car to experience
