Getzset Neutral Newbie January 23, 2006 Share January 23, 2006 (edited) The Paykan 1600 is probably the longest running production car model in the world. And it's design haven't changed much since 1967. Talk about retaining classic looks. Has a 4 cyl. 1.6 litre engine which produce 67 bhp at 5000 rpm. Sells at USD6000 Where do you get it ? IRAN The PAYKAN is Iran's most popular car, which was modelled on the 1960s Hillman Hunter, which is driven by about 40% of Iranians. First built in 1967, the car is highly valued because of its low cost, its durability and easiness to repair. Even after the Hillman Hunter stops production in 1979, the Paykans are still rolling out of it's factory till, would you beleive it, May 2005. Yes, it's factory stopped the production line just last year to make way for their new national car, The SAMAND I guess that won't make it to our shore, (nor our neighbours) either. Imagine the puns you'd get with that name. "You're gonna get a summon for that" Despite lacking a host of modern requirements such as air conditioning and ABS braking systems, the car has retained widespread popularity, particularly among lower income groups. Within the span of its 35 years reign in Iran, it only went through a single facelift. The Old trusty Paykan ...... . . . ...and the NEW PAYKAN I bet that side mirrors improved it Coeffecient of Drag by a whopping 4.3%. It's revolutionary ! Atlantis_boi Clutched January 24, 2006 Share January 24, 2006 Thx 4 the article. I didnt know such a car existed. very interesting & amusing. And 4km/L I tink tat's worse than a V12 Cylinder engine. Tat means for a person who clocks high mileage, haf to top up the tank everyday

Genie47 1st Gear January 24, 2006 Share January 24, 2006 If only the Iranians copied the Hillman Imp instead of the Hunter.

And now a brand new series.. PIMP My Ride IRAN. ...."This week, they're trickin out a 1973 Paykan. They're putting on a new 20' dubs and a brand new nuclear reactor to propel the car. Don't forget to tune in next week when we pimp a 1984...you guessed it right... a Paykan !!!
Coolbluewater 2nd Gear January 24, 2006 Share January 24, 2006 Their new Samand looks like cross over between renault, mazda 626 and abit of Kia magenta. At least, they are progressing, with new designs, and a whole new range. Though I believe that even if these cars hit our shores, they won't be popular because it'll be very very difficult to maintain because their parts are closed to non existent in other parts of the world. http://www.ikco.com/products/samand.asp
Atlantis_boi Clutched January 24, 2006 Share January 24, 2006 because it'll be very very difficult to maintain because their parts I dun tink any 1 will buy the car even if it reaches our shores. 4km/L, pump petrol alone is v.siong liao esp SG petrol so expensive.
