Larger is nicer... I think 18" fills the wheel arches nicely and with 45 profile tires look very sporty... BUT 18" rims and tires are much more expensive... 17" rims are much cheaper and to fill the wheel arches, you'll probably need profile 50 tires... more comfortable and cheaper and better for fuel economy...

Hi, appreciate some advices here.

1 The stock rim is 16" with 205/55R16 tires. Can the tires be changed to 205/60R16 or 205/65R16 ? Wish to reduce the Gap between the tires & the wheel arches. I prefer comfy rides, so changing to 17" rims & tires doesn't appeal to me.

With the stock 16" rims, is it possible to use Wider tires, such as 215/60R16 ? Any advantage in using Wider tires for this case ?

2 Where to get scuff plates locally ?

3 Is the current 9" Head Unit any good ?

Regards

Was just quietly following this thread in search of a new car but so amused to find such similar considerations, was stuck between i30 wagon and XV as well. Went to Leng Kee to test drive both cars right after the car expo. Ended up choosing i30 wagon due to budget (price difference about $6k, road tax/fc for 2.0l higher, no min loan for i30) and ride quality (XV sounded surprisingly noisy during the test drive, i30's pick up was more engaging due to the turbo).

That said, any XV on the road still catch my full attention to stop and admire at its exterior and envy its safety features.

Finally decided to create an account to share my 2cents. Currently awaiting the wagon to arrive in June! TGIF to all!

Did you miss out the depreciation for i30 wagon, higher than XV. The current VES $10,000 rebate affect the scrap value.

Current XV is a 2.0L car, whereas i30 is a 1.4L turbo car, dont know if still can compare between these two cars? I find these two cars are like in different category le.

Pleae allow me to explain the situation I was facing:  my first and foremost hurdle is pricing i.e. I will only look at cars which are selling below $100K. After meeting this hurdle, I further narrowed down based on exterior design, safety features, ride quality etc, and my final choices boiled down to i30 and XV. The 2L vs 1.4L was not within my foremost consideration as my previous ride was 2L anyway.

Congrats! I think i30 wagon is a good choice  [thumbsup]

As my previous car was a 2007 and 2L model, therefore regardless whether my final choice is i30 or XV, being the lastest models in the market, both their FC and noise insulation would be better/improved (at least that's my observation).

While you will be admiring the XV's exterior design on the road, I think I will also do the same should I see an i30 (sedan/wagon) on the road. But strangely, I have not been lucky enough to spot the new i30 on the road so far.

Sorry but how was the price difference between i30 wagon and XV came up to be $6K? When I was looking at both cars around end April, i30 wagon quoted price was $97,999 while XV was $99,800.

Did you miss out the depreciation for i30 wagon, higher than XV. The current VES $10,000 rebate affect the scrap value.

When I did the calculations back then, XV's scrap value was about $8.2k while wagon's was about $4k. Lowest price negotiated for XV was $97,800 while wagon was $91,499. Depre worked out to be slightly lower than XV.

In addition, I was subsequently informed that MI's price was inclusive of inhouse loan rebates of $2,500 (2.48%,min 30k,5 years -> $3720 min amount of interest to be paid). In comparison, there was no penalty from Komoco on loan amount and tenure, savings on interest paid (based on my intended smaller loan amount/shorter tenure) worked out to be about $2k.

Road tax wise, difference of ~$600/yr will sum up to $6k for the full 10 years. With these figures in mind, my limited budget shifted the decision towards the wagon.

Would like to caveat that numbers will be different for individual buyers if you do have a car to trade-in (not for my case) and different loan amount required. But of course, the marginal difference in amount might be considered insignificant for buyers who are looking at the best option for anything below $100k so it really depends on the individual to do the maths and weigh their options.

PS: pardon me if I have miscalculated on the scrap value.

Thanks and congrats to your on your XV too! Definitely a soild choice for options under $100k.

Same for me here, been trying to spot the new i30 but to no avail thus far.

--

In response to your ques on the price diff, XV was quoted at $97,800 (since no trade-in) while i30 wagon was listed as $94,999 (special expo price if booking is made during that 2 days) and managed to negotiate down to $91,499. Difference works out to be about $6.3k.

But of course, perhaps my negotiating skill wasn't as effective with MI's SE hence the larger margin.

You got a real good value given your situation not needing the full loan. Your i30 wagon probably near $8,700 dep. Today i30 wagon priced just below 100K and likely near $9,300 dep at best. At the moment my heart more towards XV.

Haha some of us here are probably all looking at the same few cars with certain things in mind. Comparing linearly based on cc or car type is probably more for reviewers I guess

Tier 3 pricing.

It was Tier 2 actually. SE advised against paying more for Tier 1 as they were confident on getting the COE  (18 Apr).

Was also advised to not opt for Tier 3. Ended up seeing their surprisingly high bid amount and so happen Cat B trended down to $37,330. On hindsight, could have saved more if wasn't kiasu and agreed on Tier 2.

Pricelist brochure during car expo listed wagon as $94,999, a further $2000 discount if booking is made during then.

Gave up the 2-years free servicing ($1000) and $500 petrol voucher. Final price being $91,499.

Price can be further reduced by giving up leather seats (stock cloth) but the leather seats were too good to give up.

Hope that clarifies.

You are right, given the current depre for the XV and i30 wagon, my heart would be more towards XV as well haha. In my opinion, the dashboard of the XV is way better than the i30 (the 9" HU cheapens the entire feel).

On a sidenote, I went to the car expo with the Elantra in mind and i30 was just more of a 'sit for fun since it's there'. But upon sitting in both cars, my heart was stuck on the i30 wagon and had to convince myself to adjust that budget slightly more.

Yeah lor the 9" HU kinda of cheapens the interior. Looks like local install though. Haven't heard anyone yet on how to upgrade it.

The XV screen is slightly better but the sound.. hmmm, that is another thread.

Congrat for the decision!

Actually 2 is different car at all, one is compact suv, the other is wagon. Being wagon low body, loading and unloading is much easy already, dont mention about the boot space. I know the xv boot space is really small. Those who do not need that ,might go for xv. But i personally like the bigger boot...family ma..haha! :)

Tier 3 price no worry with kmc, so far not hearing ppl complaining not getting coe in 1st round. But subaru is different story. They will not be aggressive.

do note the special interest rate of 2.18% comes with T&C.

full interest payable even if you decides to settle the full loan after one year.

i took the market rate of 2.48% but can do early settlement after one year.

I thought rule of 78 + 1% penalty

Yes there is still the 78 thingy but still can get back some interest.

Unlike the special rate of 2.14%, interest is paid in full regardless of early settlement or not.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I think you clinched a good deal for i30 wagon at $91,499, congrats  [thumbsup]
