Did she even open up her precious mouth to ask politely or not?

Straight away condem those who never automatically give up their seats to satisfy her personnal needs.

If she writes that, after asking 3 guys and ALL refused to give up their seats, then I say she got the rights to complain!

Penalise riders who do not give up seats to those in need

I had a very bad experience on Tuesday morning while travelling on the MRT.

I am five months pregnant with twins. I got onto the train at Tampines MRT Station and, as usual, all the seats were taken. I walked to the centre of the car and stood in front of three gentlemen.

Their eyes were wide open when I got in but, after a while, all of them dozed off.

One got off at Bedok, but his seat was quickly grabbed by a woman who was standing beside me.

I was shocked by her inconsiderate action.

I eventually got a seat when someone else alighted.

Later, three other pregnant women boarded the train at Raffles Place, but nobody bothered to give up their seats.

I got up and offered one of them my seat.

I am saddened by people who seem to be getting more self-centred and inconsiderate these days.

Signs on the trains asking commuters to give up their seats to pregnant women or elderly passengers are not effective.

Maybe SMRT should consider penalising those who do not give up their seats to those who need them more.

it would be a very sad day if this kind of things also need penalty. but opening golden mouth is not something singaporeans do...

actually i think this is one isolated incident. most times, i see people giving up seats.

I agree, seen many cases of people giving up seats to elderlies (very old and stooping kind/with walking stick) and pregnant women (those 6-7 months type) [thumbsup]

in tokyo, you have "ladies only" sections/cars, aged and handicapped seats...

singapore is not a graceful society yet, so have to ask to get what you want. maybe even ask also cannot get...hahaha

all these..who to blame??? blame ourselves lor

What's with these pregnant women? They think they are carrying some heir to the Lee throne? They pay the same amount of fare as other passengers leh.

If want to seat all the way to your destination, the correct transport to take is call the Taxi.

Turbocharged

Pregnant big F issit? Give up seat to her? Sure why not but don't complain if people don't deh. Its not an entitlement. Just a privilege. People are entitled to their own actions no matter how self centered it is. Everything also want to penalise? Must be the system that brainwashed her into that conclusion

To penalise people for not giving up seats is too much.

But how come we are what we are today? Is there anything wrong with our society, education system, parental guidance, etc....that made many of us so self-centered and lack of grace? Surely, we didn't become like that overnight. [confused][confused]

Women in my mum's generation are much stronger & tougher dan today's complaining queens. Imagine they had to endure non air-con and bumpy bus-rides either sitting or standing to reach their destination.

true ba. they din hv tat much expectations as compared to our gen today. imagine our 1st hp is a big head kind.

but on the flip side, i think being pregnant isnt comfortable so in small ways tat matters, it would be nice to hv society acknowledging tat thru some acts of kindness. plus, their children will support US when we are old cos they pay taxes.

Agree. People of the older generation are tougher.

But we have progressed and some luxuries eg. air con fitted pte car, tv @ home, mobile phone, etc... are now necessities to many.

Neutral Newbie

Personally, "Ask or don't ask for the seat, privilege, pay the same fare, complain" is not how I view it. Rather, from this incident, I am also disappointed in that: Why aren't those seated sensitive about the greater needs for others and be automatic to offer their seats?
