hiya dagger!

before you ask which is better? i think the question is "what" is better to you.......like what do you is important to you....... different people have different views of what is better, some will say handling is important to them, so the focus is better....... others, it is style, then the Megane hatch is better, so, to help you out, could you list out in order of importance to you what you would really want in your ride, then we can narrow it down lah........ Ford Focus or Renault Megane?

if between teh two...hmm, Megane. more features.

Agreed wif u in terms of features but how abt performance? i felt focus is slightly under power [hur]

i never test drive both cars b4.. but megane is a 1.6 .. n i think its quite heavy. on paper , magane's acceleration is quite slow

yes the megane1.6 is slower in pickup if u compare with the civic and altis...but other than tat, its packed with safety features and gadgets which the jap cars do not have...i hav not checked out the new focus but i would agree tat the astra would be a good buy too...price wise, megane is definitely the cheapest among the 3 and with its design and size, definitely worth it

back to the reliability issue, all the 3 models are fairly new models in the market i would say, megane End 2003, Astra 2004, new focus 2005...u hav to look at them say 3-5 years later to really tell which is most reliable dun u agree?

Problematic? well, all cars regardless of make have minor hicups here and there which can be resolved by agent under warranty...it all depends on yr luck dun u agree?

u may have bought the most reliable car in the market conducted by some survey but if u r unlucky, the car tat is assigned to u may stil give u problems and end up u stil hav to make trips down to agent to resolve, this type of things are hard to say...ultimately, go for the ride which u liked the most and of course tat is within yr budget, cos u will be looking at it for at least 4-5years

agree. i've been to the Astra launch...i dunno wats its pricing now , but it should still be a good buy for a conti. i didnt test drive it but i'm a bit sceptical about the clutchless trans...

megane is packed with features but i find it looks a bit dated

But is it true that Megane has better pick up [hur]

I dunno. I sat in the driver's seat in the showroom, and got out immediately. the cabin didn't even seem inviting enough for me to go test drive.

The Astra... now, that's a different story. It feels a little plasticky, and it's still a bit flimsy for a Conti ride. But when I drove it, I found it to be very smooth. The transmission is good. a bit smoother than the Selespeed, and not as quick to bite, but still quite nippy. A little too smooth for my liking, but it should suit normal folks just fine. The suspension is soft and comfy. you can't jerk the wheel too hard, or the car will seem like it's going to lose it (or maybe I just too used to my car). I think for the price it's asking for, I wouldn't mind going for it. The interior is pleasant. Not awe inspiring or crime inducing, especially when you turn the lights on, but still quite nice to look at for long drives. The Steering is light, and pretty responsive, if somewhat a bit too light for my liking. (too used to my car again) I wonder what kind of mods the car can take. How much you can push that engine...

Honestly, it's a beaut.

Ford Focus or Renault Megane?

Will like the Focus, but will confirm Megane due to:

1. Regent motor service sucks - die die must stick to Regent service

2. No other workshop is authorised/know how to service Ford

Megane - Few workshops available apart from Excl & BCC (Espace, few others)

- There is road side assist

- More powerful engine and more aftermarket gadgets (At least now)
