CAI installation

hello bro. i have done my own CAI. and will be interested to do yours. are you in AT or NA mode? i can try doing it for you. also how much are you willing to spend on CAI?

 

i have done my Mazda3 and will be doing 2 of the same make. IMO simota and other maker of CAI dun really work. try and tested.

 

was doing a drag race with one mazda 3 also.

 

his sedan mod: simota air ram, max velocity light weight pulley, SAFC2, without spare tyre, operated exhaust. (FC 320km per tank filled)

 

my hatch mod: apexi open pod, CAI, SAFC2, operated Exhaust, WITH spare tyre. (FC 460km per tank filled)

 

drag for one traffic light est 300m or less. result: he is 2 car length behind me. and do take note that sedan laden weight is alreally lighter than my hatch.

 

have yet to try other car make. so quite interested to take up challenges. let me know if you are interested. can email me at [email protected] if possible email me a pic of your engine bay too so that i can study it. will take some time to execute cos this is not my salary earning job. i am a designer in other field. bro,just the difference between the intake system won't affect that much on FC and even power in my opinion...

its how the driver drives....

 

bro IMO you are half right. the intake will create compression within the engine. and this compression will determine the boost or torque a car can push. if just depend on driver, why ppl mod cars?

 

a stock cars will be tuned rich in A/F to protect the engine. a Leaner Mix will allow more power/compression generating power. usually a 12.8 to 13.1 will be more ideal. so if compare to 14.7 or richer mix, you are saving 1 - 2% of fuel for every ratio mix. thats a saving in Fc liao.

 

if intake is not important, there will not be turbo charged or super charger. these system uses force induction creating pressure with camber.

 

 

i dun mean the driver skill...

i mean the fc u r toking abt...

its got to depend on how a person drives also...

so its hard to say ur set up actually save petrol...

more air flow less fuel???

bro,i never say intake not impt...

no intake no power...

what i mean is an open pod intake set up won't give too much gain on a stock car...

unless u have other mods...one of them is tuning which is impt to make the gain...

and btw,cai can't compare to turbo chargers...they are different things...

unless ur set-up can fight with turbo...

if got turbo then don't need air filter loh...

btw,iam quite interested in ur set up...though i have some doubts..no offence pls...

i just wana know how u did it...then i may ask u to do my ride...

bro. these are what i have done.

 

1) Open pod

2)) DIY CAI with scoop

3) replace plugz

4) "operate" end muffler

5) light weight pulley.

 

plugz usually no gain/ gain less than 1 bhp

pulley the most gain 1-2 bhp.

 

so the rest should be for CAI. my stock ride is 107bhp. sorry, i forgot how to convert ps to bhp. but if bhp is a whole new story again, cos laden weight is different.

it is true that FC depends very much on the drivers foot. this i have to agree 100%. what i meant in my FC is that i use to drive stock that give me 420per tank, now cos my tune is leaner, my ride now have 460per tank. cos i had optimised every combustion/ maximised the power of every drop of fuel. so i throttle less to get to the speed i desired in the pass, i am running rich, so richness=lost of power. thats why the faster i want to reach my desired speed, the more fuel i am losing

yah...ofcos tune leaner will help save fuel....

and its got nothing to do with CAI set up...in my opinion...

but u were comparing ur fc with ur fren's one...

so i said it had to depend on driver's driving style...

hmmm not sure where you get the 1-2 bhp from pulley.

 

The purpose of the pulley is to "release" the load on the engine when your aircon, electrical items tap power.

bro dun worry, no offence taken. exchanging of pointer i like cos in my own made forum, their tends to hide mod from each other.

 

it is true that open pod dun gain much. especially for AT cars.

 

i do hope my set up can fight with turbo. kekekkeke. i know that are different. what i actually meant is to create a force induction. forcing air into the throttle. as the air compression will built up within my box with cold air, so once the throttle open, the cold air will be forced into the chamber cos the air is moving into the CAI create a certain amt of pressure. (theory like turbo, just that not so intense nia)

 

as your next question air scoop, it is like a very big opening with a very small back end. like a funnel. this will create a bottle neck when air in scoop and compress into this smaller end thus creating pressure. turbo is using physic pressure. i am using velocity air pressure. something like that. dunno if i explain correctly.

yah...i think pulley helps for faster acceleration...

less loads means faster acceleration and car will be faster...

does not mean increase in hp...

but maybe it does help gain...iam not sure in this thhough...

if i am not wrong, pulley lessen the load on the engine thus most engine power is transfer to the wheels. correct me if i am wrong. [:p]

so u mean the "scoop" is to store the cold air...

and when the throttle is opened,the stored air from the scoop can goes in faster???

do u mean that???

btw,what do u think of the AEM V2???

which i think is quite similar to ur concept...but the set up is diff....

no bro, scoop is in the front of the intake. have draw a pic to show you. this is an example of the scoop. but the actually need more than just this, it needs fins to direct the air for some cars.
