Mel4fun Neutral Newbie November 14, 2005 Share November 14, 2005 Uncle Soya, Question :- 1) How quiet is this tyre after 15,000 km, compared to Preceda / ES100 / P-Zero Russo (or any tyre which you had tried before) ? I'm impressed by the wet+dry grip given the good pricing, but very cautious on the noise generated. Any advise appreciated. Kum sia !
Soya Supersonic November 14, 2005 Author Share November 14, 2005 Among the 3 u mentioned, I've tried the ES100 and surprisngly, the F1s were quieter and had a better ride in terms of comfort altho i ran higher pressures (35psi vs 32). Ran close to 30k on them and re-purchased them again. Drove on other 'quiet, comfort' tyre like the P6000 for a week and found them even noisier. Dun get me wrong, the F1s ain't whisper quiet but for a top-notch UHP tyre, it's pretty civilised.
Genie47 1st Gear November 14, 2005 Share November 14, 2005 As usual, Michelin makes their users pay more for the name than for the performance. Why are the Americans still using CSC2, the Autoexpress Test used the CSC3 for its test. Well, these tires from CaD are pretty easy to get here. The AutoExpress one has unheard of Euro makes like Vredestein and Matador. Not that the Matador mattered, most importantly, where to find Vredestein tires here? Fluffy Clutched November 14, 2005 Share November 14, 2005 (edited) hi genie, i think the Autoexpress uses the ContiEcoContact 3, not hte COntiSportContact 2 (dun have 3 i believe) as for quiet and good grip, can try the Bridgestone GR-80s. i'm currently on 17"s GR-80s and they are quite grippy. Amazingly quiet and even gives you confidence in the wet. Rated at 91W. The GR-80s are available in 17s and 18s now. and at only about 100km on the tires, they are far better than the Hankooks Ventus K104 which i was on. They were pathetic in the wet, just like the above test in C&D prove. In singapore, unlike US, we have rain almost every other day. need good wet tires too. The hankooks weren't the correct tires. And they became really noisy, i mean, deafeningly noisey after 30,000km ........ to conclude: the hankooks are rubbish. even with little experience with the GR-80s, they seem pretty alright. I know it beat the Michelin MX-V8, dunno about Preceda. Edited November 14, 2005 by Fluffy

Genie47 1st Gear November 14, 2005 Share November 14, 2005 Yep, thanks I just checked the report again, it is CEC3 instead of CSC2. Among the things I found out since that report is that GlobalTraco deals in Nokian tires and they do have the NRHi. The wet weather freaks might keep an eye on this one. They also deal with Matador tires and after seeing the dismal results in the AE test, better keep away from them.

F1-GSD3 has known for it's excellent wet+dry grip. On top of that, it has a softer side-wall which enhanced the ride comfort especially for low profile setup. The only issue is that I'm concern that the "V" thread pattern may generate a lot of road noise, since it does not have the vertical groove to "break up" the noise. I'll do more research on this tyre, but will be very inclined to try it as my next set. Thanks.

Falc 3rd Gear November 14, 2005 Share November 14, 2005 (edited) Ya man... this tyre gives god-like control in the wet. Noise is acceptable or below average for such performance tyre category also. Edited November 14, 2005 by Falc
