Tashi Clutched June 15, 2006 Share June 15, 2006 hi bro Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is NOT a business trip, but an official event related to a humanitarian aid mission, where I participate pro bono as a volunteer. It is not always about $ you know. :-) Think about a car like a computer (only a longer evolution cycle). Everytime a first generation PC comes out (or Mac for that matter), we always feel like wanting it. Then we wait, and wait, and wait. Suddenly, they announce the next evolution or revolution again. Again, we wait, wait and wait. Bottomline? Get the car (or PC) at the time you NEED it, not when you want it, or when you "think" there is a good deal. Unfortunately, all these are businesses, with a P&L bottomline to look after. If they give something, its gotta come from somewhere. Actually, I do not believe buying a car is an "investment", safely say that in ANY country. It is a tool, and sometimes a toy, but never an investment. Ask a really true friend who is a banker, and he would concede. Even a real estate property has to be weighed seriously before it can be considered an investment, including whether you are staying in it, renting out, long vs short term, etc. There aren't many "real" investments these days, at least to small fries like me. bless ↡ Advertisement

Tiewsh Neutral Newbie June 19, 2006 Share June 19, 2006 In fact the 1.8T engine is one of the best engines in the world with several years of best engine award. It produces 150 Brake Horse Power on the wheel and low end torque. In fact it is much better than a normal 2.0 liter normal air breath engine and close to 2.4 liter power figure. Horsepower: Honda 2.0 VTI: Power at flywheel: 150 horsepower max at 5500 rpm (Note: power is measured at flywheel) VAG 1.8T: Power at wheel: 150 horsepower max at 5700 rpm Torque: Honda 2.0 VTI: 186 Nm max at 4500 rpm VAG 1.8T: 210 Nm max at 2100 rpm (Higher torque at much lower rpm means faster acceleration: Superb 1.8T: 0-100 km/hr @ 9.5 sec only. Top speed for superb 1.8T reaches 220 km/hr which is very respectable. Both figures show the strengths of VAG 1.8T engine) In addition, by ECU reprogramming (for example APR) which cost only small amount of Sg dollar @ 2,000 you get 195 BHP. VAG 1.8T engine - one of the best engines in the world! (pls. search wikipeadia for more info on this engine...)

Tashi Clutched June 19, 2006 Share June 19, 2006 hi mate My wife drives it, and it effortlessly picks up, accelerates at stop/start situations, grace slopes, take good turns, without nary a "useless" situation it couldn't effortlessly handle. The point of it being used as a taxi bears testimony that the brand is being recognized in the same way as a reliable Merc, offering price, performance, space, usefulness, reliability, etc, all those attributes a cab operator would look for. It is a compliment really. Never look at just numbers, just as you wouldn't necessarily assume a tall man beating a shorter man at running either a marathon or a sprint of 100/200 meters right? Horsepower is never the true guage of a good engine. The fact that the Superb has low-end torque, means that you find it so effortless to power and move along. Spend a little more time with it and you might appreciate it. bless tashi
Tashi Clutched June 19, 2006 Share June 19, 2006 hi bro Andrew Returned safely from the trip, although my scoliosis didn't help in the long queues, the official ceremony (which required us to stand for several hours), etc. But I am glad to have made that trip, it was eye-opening, and opens up lots more pro bono aid work and collaboration possibilities. bless

Tiewsh Neutral Newbie June 19, 2006 Share June 19, 2006 "Tiew, I think u shud tell the person who said " SPB has a USELESS TURBO ENGINE ",,not me." Sorry boss for my mistake... In regards to the issue of superb = taxi, I have some opinion as follows: Taxi company is profit based organization. The price of Superb is not cheap. I believe with that type of price, there are many options available for taxi companies, Japanese/Korean/Conti... I believe they should have made a complete and detailed analysis before they choose Superb. Any investment shall base on 2 main factors: 1)Increase Revenue 2)Lower Cost To increase revenue means better customer satisfaction. For taxi companies, this is more towards comfort of customer. Superb wins here because it has the large cabin space which is comparable to Mercedes S Class. In addition, the ride is very comfortable and customers will enjoy it. All these shall help to increase the revenue for the taxi companies. Lower cost - 2 types of cost involved here: Fuel cost and maintenance cost. The fuel consumption should be reasonable and the maintenance cost must be as low as possible. Skoda cars are proven to be more reliable due to the fact that they are using older version of VAG engines which are already being tested for years and proven to be reliable. Any major problems on the engines are solved and that translate into lower maintenance cost. Parts are also readily available. In addition, the built quality is much higher compared to VW as stated in many professional review, due to the fact that Skoda is 100-year brand with their vast experience and skill in car making. Therefore, if a taxi company can take Superb as taxi, that means it is value-for-money. If Superb is value-for-money for taxi companies, I think it should be the same for us too. ↡ Advertisement
