Hi bro,

Some information to support your point that the Superb 2.5 TDI V6 taxis are fuel efficient and low on running cost. The information has been obtained from a German motoring website which tracks the maintenance and running cost of vehicles available in Europe.

http://www.autobudget.de/gebrauchtwagen/us...sv=21503&y=2006

From this site, the average fuel consumption reported is 7l/100km, which works out to 14.28km/l.

Reference: Kraftstoff (7,00 Liter/100 km, Diesel)

This figure is very respectable considering the engine capacity and size of the Superb.

Based on the analysis of the overall running costs, the Superb 2.5 TDI is cheaper to maintain compared to the Mercedes Benz E220 CDI. Although the E220 CDI is reportedly more efficient than the Superb 2.5 TDI by around 2.11km/l, the Mercedes is more costly to service.

http://www.autobudget.de/gebrauchtwagen/us...sv=20475&y=2006Reference: Gesammtkosten pro Jahr (Total costs per year)

In comparison with the Mercedes Benz E200 NGT running on a mixture of compressed natural gas (CNG) and petrol, the Superb 2.5 TDI is lighter on the fuel consumption too. The E200 NGT returns on average 9l/100km when the car is running fully on CNG or petrol.

Reference: Kraftstoffverbrauch (Page 2 of pdf file)

Hopefully we will see more Superb 1.9 TDI serving in taxi fleets with an average consumption of 5.5l/100km (18.18km/l).

In fact the 1.8T engine is one of the best engines in the world with several years of best engine award. It produces 150 Brake Horse Power on the wheel and low end torque. In fact it is much better than a normal 2.0 liter normal air breath engine and close to 2.4 liter power figure.

In stock form, the 1.8T produces 150bhp at the crank, not wheels. For an auto, expect to get about 115bhp at the wheels. The 1.8T is indeed a good engine, but it has its quirks like sludging, failing coil packs etc. In terms of reliability, I'll still take a Honda anytime.

Power of 1.8T

The VAG 1.8T engine power is measured in BHP. As an aside, the term 'bhp' is often used to describe engine power output; this is 'Brake Horsepower,' which is the actual power that makes it through the transmission and drivetrain to the wheels of the car. Brake horsepower is the vehicle

HI fellow Skoddies, this morning, around 11+ AM, wife was driving (with me sitting beside) along town towards Suntec area, and saw a gleaming silver Skoda Superb, with the CD plate (diplomat). Think it was a dark haired angmo.

Wondering out loud, anyone saw CD Skoda Superb before? Could it be the Czech diplomats? Just wondering. Nice!

PS - Sorry no photo as my phone no zoom and low-res, the photos always end up looking like some pinhole cam.

Maybe my ignorance, bro, but I might imagine that it is a Czech Republic diplomat, since the Czechs would appreciate the engineering, build quality, and brand, first hand. I have NOT seen a Skoda Superb diplomat car in SG yet, this is the first!
