Toledosun Neutral Newbie March 10, 2006 Share March 10, 2006 There are threads which discussed MXV8 nad GR80. Between these two, GR80 is preferred. In fact, when GR80 was first launched, there were several reviews which pitted it against the MXV8 and it always came up the winner. DNA DB501 is the replacement for Aspec Db. Aspec Db was found to be very quiet but with poor aquaplaning abilities. DNA is supposed to have better aquaplaning ability but you'll have to check with people who have used it before. In my case, after reading the reviews, I went for the GR80s. Lasted me two years and noise level still very low after two years. Grip is great, no problems with aquaplaning so I would recommend them. Edrollbrick Neutral Newbie March 11, 2006 Share March 11, 2006 That's interesting to know. Have always thought Michellins are good and quiet. GR80 is the Turanza? What size did you use?
Toledosun Neutral Newbie March 13, 2006 Share March 13, 2006 15 inch tyres back then. I thought of the MXV8s back then too because they were supposed to be energy efficient/fuel saving. However, more than one mag gave the GR80s better rating than the MXV8s. What happened was that Bridgestone had two cars side by side, one with MXV8s and the other GR80s. They had motoring journalists try both cars. Most of the reviewers simply said the GR80s fared better than the competitor. Only one actually printed the name the the competitor tyre and it was MXV8
Kelpie 2nd Gear March 13, 2006 Share March 13, 2006 1. Which are the magazines that did the comparsion between GR80 and MXV8? 2. I used both before and my preference is MXV8. Regards,
Furrynadz 5th Gear March 13, 2006 Share March 13, 2006 mvx8 scores highly in wheels test overseas compared to others like bf goodrich for wet weather and even g3 in dry
Toledosun Neutral Newbie March 13, 2006 Share March 13, 2006 Can't remember, I'm afraid. there were like 3 or 4 local mags that did the comparison. I never tried the MXV8s so I can't comment. I agree that sometimes, these mags are not accurate because the tests were done overseas and for all we know, the roads there were made of different materials and the GR80s were specifically made with those road conditions in mind. Why did you prefer the MXV8s? Care to share? Is it quieter? better fuel economy? better grip?

Juzzme 3rd Gear March 16, 2006 Share March 16, 2006 Seems not many are aware that there is a AVS dB, in Yokohama's premium line. Retains the noise reduction characteristics of the ASpec/DNA dB, but has a more aggressive groove pattern but improved grip and aquaplanning resistance. Price is only slightly > DNA dB. I find it a good balance between handling and comfort, after 10000km on my 195/60/15s.
Toledosun Neutral Newbie March 16, 2006 Share March 16, 2006 I checked on the price of the AVS Db recently. It is about $200 per tyre for 16 inch. That's way above the price for the DNA Db and GR80s.
Juzzme 3rd Gear March 16, 2006 Share March 16, 2006 oh...mine was $15 more per piece for my 15"s. From Leong Seng Tyres.
Toledosun Neutral Newbie March 20, 2006 Share March 20, 2006 so u paid $215 per tyre?? That's a bit high. The GR80s for 15 inches is about $100 cheaper so... ↡ Advertisement
