Nope. a 2.0L car can still use 30wt and below. Get the stupid mentality that thick oil is for bigger cars or whatever stupid ideas people put into you. All the car cares about is oil pressure not how thick the oil is.

That's because you didn't bed the brakes properly. There is no such thing as rotor warp. Its called material deposit. There is a proper technique in bedding your brakes.

Hi like to check with aveo owner does your engine sound very noisy like a diesel automobile and feel very rough engine running? My engine sound become like that after doing my 40k servicing and after i took out my resonator.Any solution to make the noise reduce and smoother? Pls Help

The purpose of the resonator is to cut down on harsh air intake noise from the engine. Maybe you should consider putting back the resonator on the vehicle. My BIW is driving a 04 Aveo but never complaints about any noisy engine ! He is full of praise for it, in fact !

If your engine sound like a diesel taxi...i.e. tapping noise, then you may have a real issue with the camshaft tappets ! SA should be able to advise you on this ! What did they say about it ?

Try cooling down your brake disc when it is very hot by spraying it with cold water on one side....especially after braking at high speed ! I have seen warp disc before ! I drove my Mit Galant into a car wash along the NS Highway. The guy sprayed water onto the wheels. After that, driving the car seems funny. Whenever, I applied the brakes the front wheels would shake. Got back home and the mechanic did a disc run out test with a dial gauge....the run out was about 1 mm ! Sent the disc for skimming but cannot resolve it. Finally changed a new set and fixed the problem. Lesson learnt ! Never spray cold water on the disc. Worst situation, disc would crack and next braking would be a disaster !

Greetings to all, first time posting.

Got some questions to see if any bros encounter on this FC behaviour:

Driving style:

Acceleration <2.8K rpm & cruising at 2.2~2.4K rpm

20% city and 80% highway

Condition of my altis 1.6:

1) Since day #1 - change to 17" taiwan rims + 215/45 tyres

2) 1st tank (from full to light up) = 470 km for 42L (petrol grade 95)

3) 2nd tank (from full to light up) = 450 km for 43L (petrol grade 95)

After 1000km service at BM (now milage at 3300km):

1) Right after 1000km servicing, Lowered with Tein wagon coilover, done grounding, changed OWS spark plugs, K&N drop in filter, slot disc rotor front & brake pad, strut bar.

2) 3rd to 9th tank (from full to light up) = 360~375 km for ave 43L (petrol grade 95)

Abnormalities:

1) Car gets very rough noisier as days goes by, especially during acceleration, like driving a truck, cruising is slightly better only. During idling, could hear constant "the-the" sound from engine standing outside or sitting inside of car.

2) During normal cruising, at about 50~60km/h, there is a "clark-clark" sound heard from engine compartment.

Wondering if it is the engine oil that BM changed during svc is of very low quality or wrong type of oil used?

Thx in advance.

Hi Peter, Altis 72,

Thanks for the feedback, I knew the effect of 17" rims and tyre will cause FC, but I had put 17" wheels on my ride since day #1, immediately after collecting the car from Sin Ming center and achieved 450km~470km before 1000km service, which to me is normal cause engine still in running in condition.

Things seems to go wrong after 1000km svc at BM. FC deteriorated by 100km per tank, engine got noisy and rough even rpm had never exceeded 3K, and driving pattern is constant througout from day #1 till date. Knew BM is using those 200 liters or 44 gallons oil drum (in a barrel) engine oil (whether is mineral or synthetic), which I do not know what brand or quality of oil are those. Check my engine oil and found that the oil is sticky, but not blackish (after 2000~3000km usage), that why I think the engine oil play a part in this.

Also, believe that Cold start in the morning, RPM at 2K, drops to 1.6K after 3 sec and drops to 1.4K in 3~4 sec, , then after about 2 min drops to 1.2 K and need to on air-con to bring down RPM to 1.3K upon cold start, seems abnormal behaviour.

Worse case, went to Orchard road during last weekend and caught in slow and start/stop traffic from Lucky plaza till Istana. The fuel gauge indicate there is drop of near 1/4 tank and for that tank of fuel, it goes for 359km.

Will trash things out with BM during 5K svc and let see if there is any remedy action from BM then.

Calculated FC = 10.5 km per litre

....and we are complaining about fuel consumption, noisy engine and lousy Starauto . The almighty Toyota and Borneo seems to have same concerns.

With all due respect. This spraying with cold water on hot brakes is all the stuff that myth busters should investigate and will bust. If you bed the brakes properly, there will be no material deposit and hence no buzzoo called warped rotors.

Read the White Tech Papers from Stoptech.

http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_warped_brakedisk.shtml

Someone with "warped brakes" followed Stoptech's proper bedding procedure as described and removed the material deposit. The brakes behaved much better after.

Ya i think its the tapping noise but this is during morining warm up but after a while the

noise reduce.is it due to engine oil? i have not sent to starsauto but you should know

you will need to take 1 day just for them to troubleshoot and was always afraid at the end of the day they tell you everything OK Lah .No problem, and you waste 1 day there again.

that's what the mechanic at SA told me...one of the reason for my rear brake jam then abs light on is because of water going in when washing....then it got stuck with the dirt or something....

Drums are sealed away from any dust save for the brake dust. Mine jammed because I LFB on my hard corners. The pistons got stuck on one side. Rubber on them deformed as well testifying to the high heat stress they encountered.

Take it from me ! It is like that one Lah ! Mine makes that noise every morning ! Using 10W30 grade oil for better engine performance and FC !

Ok will try to change to 10W30 but is this the only best or is there even better oil.Cos my theory is give the best to my car so it give me less problem :)

Suggest u go back to agent, they must have adjusted your tappets during the last servicing.
