Seems like driver and companions stayed out late...could be sleepiness on the part of the driver...probably not helped by his sleeping passengers who could have looked out for him.

The red markings on the road to indicate that there is a primary school ahead and red light crossing. Vehicles are to slow down and lookout for children crossing the road.

The tree is always harder. See from the pic the tree only suffered scratches.

 

Nothing to do with hardness - it's simple physics: moving object hits relatively immovable object so where does all that energy go?

 

That's why expressways have guard rails which will deform and absorb some of the kinetic energy which saves lives - pity that Singapore's garden city policy means higher chance of fatalities on the roads.

 

hello, the trees are there for a purpose. It is usually human errors or the risks that drivers take which resulted in such tragic accidents. Our trees do not 'skid' into the paths of cars!!

I saw in Discovery program that in UK, there is a manufacturer that builds a "safer" lamp post. Many motorist died when they crashed into a standard lamp post. The lamp post will not move just like a tree after being crashed into by a car.

 

This new lamp post will absorb the crash energy, bend and buckle, but will not kill the driver/passengers.

 

Unfortunately, they can't build a safer tree.

 

When I go for a walk, I always walked behind the protection of trees.

I think you people get it all wrong, if this died driver wasn't born into this world, this accident would not had happened.

 

I recalled 20yrs back, when I was in Saudi Arabia, my friend car kenna hit from behind,

the arab driver said if you did come to my country, this accident definitely wouldn't happen.

true...how can a car be crushed like this if it was travelling at 60kmh??? i suppose thats the speed he should be travelling in that sorta road...hey,its a school zone rite? either the car simply cannot make it in a crash test or the speed was way too fast.

My fren was at the scene, one of the first few to arrive. Hes block is just a short walk away from the accident scene. He first heard a horn followed by loud screeching of tyres den "BANG". His dog barked non-stop and he had to go down to see what happened. When he arrived, he saw the driver trapped in the seat and steering airbag was deployed. Behind the driver was another passenger rooted to the seat as the legs were trapped.

He rushed over to the driver and could see that he was bleeding internally. Blood was coming out from the nose and mouth, the airbag was stained with blood as well. He gave a few coughs and then passed out. If only the ambulance could arrive in a shorter time he might have a better chance of survival. Anyway, judging by the damage of the car, most likely its excessive speeding. Just few questions in my mind :

1. Why was there a sounding of horn before he crashed?

2. Was another party involved?

3. Was he trying to avoid something?

4. Or did the horn came from another passerby's vehicle.

 

Drive safe, Be responsible.

Yishun Avenue 4 is a straight road near the school. There is special red coloured road surface (not sure what material) before the school to tell drivers to slow down.

 

Yup he crashed into a tree after the bend. He must have taken the bend at a high speed. Its a bend before a straight where he lost it.

hullo. the tree cant move. and it is only 30cm wide. so all the energy is focused into 30cm of the car thats y cars wrap around trees. if he had buang into a wall. the wider wall will spread all the enrgy orver a much larger surface area, hence causing less dmg to the body of the car. So even slow speed crashes into thin immobile objects will cause lots and lots of dmg. imagine a)u walking into a knife and b) u walking into a wall. 2 different ouches right?

but i think the horn means something la. if another car horn the guy, the other car shd have stopped and rendered help. so most prob is the euro Rs horn. i suddenly have this urge to buy an armoured personnel carrier and use it as my daily ride.

I'm replying to my own posts since many of you can't comprehend simple English -

 

Who's blaming trees? Just stating a fact in answer to the statement about trees being harder - trees don't deform as much as guard rails so for whatever reason you lose control of your car and hit a tree, you will be on the losing end.

 

As for the garden city comment, that was in reference to many of our expressways which have trees quite near the road shoulders or in the middle of the dividers - yes, they are behind guard rails but again, if and when an accident, for whatever reason, those trees can make an accident less survivable.

I am suspecting it might be the cause of Bangla cycling over there. I have driven numeous times in that stretch of road. there is a huge dom for bangla very near that area....and they cycle from there to Sembawang shipyard everyday.
