Yeshe Turbocharged February 13, 2007 Share February 13, 2007 with the following COE crash, OPC car like VIOS/lancer can get easily for 25k after AD adjust the new pricing. i wonder if anyone did the calculation, if someone gets the OPC car and used $20 coupon everyday, it would actually be much cheaper than regular car! eg, 52 weeks a year = 100 sat/sun approx 11 holidays a year total days that can use OPC car = 110 days. total days that have to use $20 coupon = 365-110 = 250 days even if u use $20 coupon EVERYDAY for 250 days = $5000!!! so in short your OPC car is actually only $30k and can use for everyday compared to a normal car costing about $42k?? the hassle is of course to tear the coupon everyday. ↡ Advertisement
Vit4wd 1st Gear February 13, 2007 Share February 13, 2007 You based your calculations based on a 1 year period only. Over 10 yr period, annual rebate for OPC is only $1700, how can it cover the $5,000?

Ahhuat 1st Gear February 13, 2007 Share February 13, 2007 this argument has been brought up before and even I have once proven on this forum that OPC is more expensive in the long run. check ur calculations again and you'll know what I mean... Gohtg Neutral Newbie February 13, 2007 Share February 13, 2007 1 year $5k,10 years $50k + car price $25k=$75k....lose out alot .but buying a OPC car like lancer or vios now is indeed a bargain
Wesn Neutral Newbie February 13, 2007 Share February 13, 2007 I think the second car can be an OPC...like I saw an OPC Nissan 350Z on the road....convertable some more....
Picanto 3rd Gear February 14, 2007 Share February 14, 2007 there's no way that the govt will allow OPC owners to get a good deal.whatever we can calculate, they have already re-calculated 10 times. moreover they are the elites, with ist class honours , PHD etc. How can we mere mortals win them? Karoon Turbocharged February 14, 2007 Share February 14, 2007 yah that's the govt specialty.... super-briliant when it comes to squeezing every cent out of its resources (us) but when it comes to making money outside/overseas......

Jrage 1st Gear February 14, 2007 Share February 14, 2007 (edited) Dont forget the $800 road tax you save : Actually, if its a 2nd car or you have unusual usage pattern is a saving of $2.5k per yr. $1.7k (dep of $17k upfront)+ $800 (road tax). Also need to consider for ppl that like take 1 mth long holiday. The car will be staying at home wasting money daily. Normal car will be wasting $7 more than OPC for a day of no use. All this is excluding the interest save from a lower loan. Edited February 14, 2007 by Jrage
Jrage 1st Gear February 14, 2007 Share February 14, 2007 Agreed that the earlier calculation is flawed.. However, with a certain usage pattern. OPC actually saves.
Wesn Neutral Newbie February 14, 2007 Share February 14, 2007 If you want to take OPC then you must be discipline to yourself that you can only use the car betweenn 7pm to 7am...otherwise it better off to use normal car then... However, if you consider to have another car(maybe 2nd or 3rd) that you seldom drive then it is good to have it as OPC...maybe like 350Z or TT or ... ↡ Advertisement
