Please note that if the omv of the car is $8000 + the COE of $5000 = $13000. The rebate for the off peak car is only $13000. The car will have 0 value left. $4000 MIA.

 

So be aware that it does not deduct off $17000 for all cars, unless the OMV of the car is high eg $20000.

 

A good time to buy a normal registration car.

I know nuts about opc cars,but now is a good time to buy normal car.

Sometimes at 6.57am,can see opc car running very fast to meet 7am deadline

which is no good.Sekali suey kena stop by tp prepare huge fines.

I don't think the OPC rebate is linked in any way to the OMV and COE.

That's a general misconception.

 

The OPC car rebate is flat across all cars, regardless of the prevailing COE price.

 

Or at least that was the policy the last time I asked about it with LTA.

Actually getting an OPC car is a good idea only if it fits your driving needs.

 

Mostly for people who work office hours at CBD/prime areas with expensive parking rates.

And yet still have a lot of nite life.

So can go home and change before going out.

 

If you're thinking of using an OPC car daily, then it's definitely not worth it...

Anyway, on the eve of the 5 major public holidays also can use for half a day...

 

The bottomline is, if it suits your usage pattern, then OPC is a VERY good idea!!!

OPC Car Owners should try to adhere to usage hours n not try to 'makan' govt....cos if too much spoil market, another set of rules will surface to counter OPC cars on the road....the penalty is hefty too!

There is an upfront rebate of $17,000 on COE and ARF. And ARF is 110% of OMV, for cars registered with COEs obtained from March 2004 tender exercise and onwards

 

If your COE = 5k. And your OMV = 10k , then you ARF = 11k.

So the max you can deduct is 16k. Argh...

 

What is the OMV of swift again ? If i am not wrong, those with swift will not be entired to the 17k rebate!

for me opc is de best deal.i ride to n from work.so if i need to go out wif my family after work...hv a car to drive ard.it makes no sense to me dat i waste de fuel n parking cost jus to park it for 8-10hrs at work.motorbike park free.n petrol cost cheaper.at night or wkends when need to go out wif family...den take de car.

there will always be ppl who use the OPC during peak hours. these ppl are the ones who contribute the most to the LTA revenue. not likely LTa will scrap the OPC rules, as LTA can make a lot out of these law breakers.

Complete newbie here..so if i plan to get a Off peak rio 1.4 M am i entitled to the 17k rebate? how do i check the OMV value?

to me..the freedom to drive the car 24/7 is the way to go...

esp if u are a family man..and emergencies do occur..when u nid to send the wife to hospital...

or the kid to hospital..or when the aged parents nids ur immiediate attention...

 

unless it is lets say ur 2nd car ...or u haf a bike to move around...

else get a regular plate car if u can afford one

with the following COE crash, OPC car like VIOS/lancer can get easily for 25k after AD adjust the new pricing. i wonder if anyone did the calculation, if someone gets the OPC car and used $20 coupon everyday, it would actually be much cheaper than regular car!

 

eg, 52 weeks a year = 100 sat/sun

approx 11 holidays a year

total days that can use OPC car = 110 days.

total days that have to use $20 coupon = 365-110 = 250 days

 

even if u use $20 coupon EVERYDAY for 250 days = $5000!!!

 

so in short your OPC car is actually only $30k and can use for everyday compared to a normal car costing about $42k?? the hassle is of course to tear the coupon everyday.

 

But, did you realise that if you use the coupon everyday, it works out to 15k (based on ur computation) and if you do that continuously for 3 years, its more than 15k which you can't take back in terms of parf/ coe rebate.

 

By 3 years' time, when you want to scrap your opc, you have hardly any paper value to take back, assuming you are buying a vios. The 17k upfront rebate is taken out from your omv and parf. In fact, normal car more worthwhile, if you drive often. The 20 bucks coupon cannot take back. At least, normal car no such worries. Only prob is the higher road tax.

 

Do a search on mcf. There was a thread on parf/coe rebates for opc.

 

One SE was saying that buying opc is as good as buying a coe car. But, its really how you want to spend your money. If you really want to use 20 bucks everyday, better take 10 year loan. The monthly cash outflow is much much easier on the wallet too.

 

But, if you are buying sports car for thrill rides after work, opc worth considering. There are a number of opc rx-8s and integras roaming the streets.
