A member of SGTOG (SinGapore Tucson Owners Group) approached Melchers when they were offering $2K for CNG conversion. Couple of months later, he popped by to Melchers workplace and was told that the Hyundai Tucson 2.0 needed extra stuff. Total cost came up to $5K.

$5,000 is a turn off to me, thats what stopping me from installing

What is the total weight for a 60 liter tank? I hope the container is not too heavy.

Otherwise it will be like sitting 2 fat chicks in the car, 24-hours a day without rest, stressing the shock absorber, suspension system and rear tyres.

You know why? Plastic intake manifold. rolleyes.gif Once you got the plastic manifold, you have to take the SGI kit which is more expensive. Use the normal mixer kit, not careful, get massive backfire, the repair cost will be more than $5k.

Best get that friend of yours to talk to Gilbert. His Mondeo was on the mixer kit. His car also uses a plastic manifold and uses a variable intake system like mine. A massive backfire destroyed his intake filter box. Lucky it is only the intake filter box which is cheap. Now he is on an SGI kit.

Compare both our cars with a certain Mr Loke with his B14 Sunny that is carburetted (I miss that thing) with the mixer kit. $2k only. Tune with gas analyzer. His Sunny is buttery smooth on CNG. No backfire whatsoever and even if he has, nothing gets destroyed. Solid metal intake manifold.

They are bifuels. All the CNG cars here are bifuel including the E200 NGT. The only monofuel CNG vehicle in the world is the Honda Civic GX.

Close to 70kg when filled.

Like a dead body permamently in the car.

Get stronger dampers. Springs last forever but not dampers. Maybe get stiff sports dampers. sly.gif

Most have gone over to use plastic intake manifolds. Mine on SGI kit. Way back when Melchers offering discount. $3.4k. No, you won't get this price from them anymore.

A more interesting question for those running CNG conversions to help the newbies who want to save fuel cost.

If you had to do it all over again with a new car, would you:

1 - still do the CNG conversion with a car with a big enough boot to accommodate the tank etc etc...

or 2 - save fuel costs with a lighter weight small cc car like the new Honda Fit?

My main issue with the CNG conversion is the space taken up and dead weight of tank.

Turbo can use CNG but depends on the engine. I think boxers got a problem.

mmm...really... then can consider Turbo for my next ride. Switch to CNG for normal driving, want more boost switch to petrol... but then the conversion kit is different?

Actually, to save fuel/running cost, I am more towards the idea of getting a commercial van like Fiat Doblo, which runs on diesel.

Ai ya, don't care what name they call their gas as long as it is value for money. Thanks for your sharing on your CNG conversion, I am already half sold reading your thread [:)] .
