Give her something well within your budget.

If she doesn't marry you, good for you.

If she marries you, good for you too.

Hi Mica

I bought a 0.5 Hearts and Arrows carat diamond Color G, Clarity VS2 with AGS certification at about 3000 SGD. Similar to LEE WAH Destiny grade.

Your budget of 6k, no problem, even for color D and very good clarity. Though tiffany abit over price IMHO, girls like it for the brand and the Turqoise-coloured box.

You may need to read up a bit on the 4 Cs

colour clarity carat and cut + cerification

Do some search.

Happy searching.

Just to add

You can just walk in.

I think the Tiffany at Ngee Ann city has 2 levels.

Solitaires are at higher level.

I brought my wife (when she was still my gf) there look look see see.

Don't find their diamonds really great, ring setting also not beri nice.

It's up to you and your liking.

Installments ah... no sure.

Probably can, you need to check it out yourself.

Frankly, no need to go to Tiffany.. their diamonds and setting are so-so.. and it's quite overpriced compared to others.

well, that's the comments we guys will make lar..

for 6k for a 40pointers, I think you shd get some changes back...

Beside the caret, check out the usual Clarify and Colour. For colour, G and above.. i.e. F, E and D shd be acceptable and norm. Actually no need to go all the way to D. It's way more expensive but hardly any difference.

For Clarify. VS1 and above is ok.. VS1 should be the norm.. 1F and above is just waste of money.

Beside this, ask for the GIA cert. look for the cut grade and clarity.. shd be "very good" and above.. good is so-so. Best is all "Excellent".

ok.. above is my own perference.. gals might have different criteria.

Go to a few shop and they will teach u.. I become an "expert" after a few visit.. [laugh]

BTW, when I do my sourcing, it goes all the way to Hongkong and belgium as well coz I have friends there to do a diamond search..

Ask in this forum if U need more help..

Cheers..

P.S. I suggest u don't spend so much on the diamond, save it for the house and wedding as well..

BTW, if you want to spend your money on those big names in exchange for those ring box, then u shd look at cartier, Charlotte Atelier, Piaget, etc... as well..

and no need for appt unless u want to specify something more unique.. but with 6K, I think you walk in lar..

Cheers

You can get a Tiffany design 40 pointer VVS2 with 'D' colour for S$2.5K or less, even $2K (price varies, depending on colour, clarity, cut etc.)

A point most people miss out is the cut. An 'excellent' cut with VS1 may shine more than a VVS2 with only a 'good' cut.

PM me if you are keen. I can refer you to some good deals from reliable sources, with GIA cert.

PS: Tiffany diamonds are way overpriced. You pay for the snob appeal and brand, that's all.

AGS supposed to be of premium over GIA...

only the higher range carries the AGS cert.. for example, Destinee, Brilliant Rose, Celestial etc...

from the models i quoted, so obvious that i only recee the local brands..no point paying for the likes of Tiffany..once u wear, nobody will know unless u belong in the high society circle.. wink.gif

You have a point there. But it's how much you want to make her wish come true. If it's tiffany that she want....mirc blue should try, within his, mean to see to that. After all, wedding is a romantic thing, almost a fairy-tale....so should let the heart take over the head (again within one's means). [;)][;)][;)]

6k may or may not be enough for the ring. depends on the color and clarity. but also, its pretty hard to get the best colour and clarity at the same time. this i know cause i had asked the lady there.

the classic or what they called tiffany setting is one of a kind according to the lady, because of band.

just to give you a rough gauge, i paid around 17k for a 0.7, D, VVS1, tiffany setting.

Lee Hwa gave me a sweeter deal of about 15k for a 0.7 something, D, IF.

so best is to see what your girl prefers. a more bang for buck ring or brand power.

as for instalments, i'm not sure. i do know that you have to pay a deposit first but even that may only apply to my case since there was only such particular ring in all of Tiff. branches around the world at that time.

last but not least, CONGRATS!

Without going for the 'brand', $6k can get you about 0.75 carat in other places (varies with the 4Cs).

But since she has already given you the brand and carat size that she wants, its no point telling you that you are wasting your money on tiffany.

After all the ring is just for memorance, diamond ring has little resale value anyway.

Dont forget you still got the WEDDING ring. tongue.gif

oh.. one more thing...

Don't buy something so expensive or big that you are going to have difficulty matching it up for the next ring you are buying for her next time..

meaning: now you buy a 0.4, so the next one got to be bigger. and it get bigger and bigger, which is more costly than the next.

Buy her something which is slightly better than all her friends is enough liao..
