Marvelicious 3rd Gear May 8, 2007 Share May 8, 2007 hi all, I am not big on performance mods. But would like to spend just a little money to improve on the performance of my ride, especially low end. Would a CAI be sufficient for an "entry level performance mod"? What do you guys recommend? I might spend more in future, but right now don't want to splurge unnecessarily... Thanks for the advice. Oh yah, btw, I drive a swift sport. ↡ Advertisement
Kiadaw 6th Gear May 8, 2007 Share May 8, 2007 Option 1) Lighten weight - Sign up for Marie France, Silm fit or Expression. If more hard working, can sign for california gym membership. Best is join SAF fitness club, aka RT, got pay you somemore - Don't carry unneccessay items, like hello Kitty figuring etc - CF bonnet -Lighter wheels Option 2)Upgrade Adaptive car control & intellegence system (ACCIS).....aka the driver - Learn to drive with less airconditioning, best is don't turn on. Off Radio too - Learn to to speed up/ gear shifting, clutch control & rev control - + mny more Best of all, pretty much FOC Option 3)Add speed & power -Exhaust muffler -lighten pulley -change performance intake like CAI - bore/ change throttle body Option 4) Safety & handling mod -Strut bars -Anti-roll bar -upgrade brakes -Full bucket seats -Coliover/change stiffer springs, lower ride
Marvelicious 3rd Gear May 8, 2007 Author Share May 8, 2007 Thanks bro for replying. I have done option 1, am 80kg. But muscles, not fats. Wheels are lighten, no longer on stock rims. But not forged rims either. Also I have found out that my CF bonnet only reduces the most 1kg for my ride. Still working on option 2. :) I need music, so radio is a must. I switch off the air-con during cool days and at night. Option 3 is what I am exploring. Am interested in changing exhaust for the performance and the sound. CAI is another option. For option 4, I am already on half bucket seats. Thinking of changing to full bucket if not for my big frame. Strut bars will be installed at a later stage. Brakes might be changed if my performance mods become too powerful for stock brakes to handle. Might lower ride, still thinking...
Kelpie 2nd Gear May 8, 2007 Share May 8, 2007 1. Just curious, for a big man like you, would there be enough leg room for rear cabin passenger? 2. I'll go for safety mod 1st. Upgrade brake systems, front, rear, center struct bars, Anti-roll bars, performance tyres and rims. Regards,

macrosszero Turbocharged May 8, 2007 Share May 8, 2007 Piggyback ECU to help give more low end performance. That might sacrifice the high end, or something else, like fuel economy or what. CAI might help as will a free-er flowing air filter. But at low RPMs the engine is hardly drawing in a lot of air, so the benefits might not be obvious. At the end of the day the M16 engine is still a relatively small capacity NA engine that relies on revs to make its power. Moreover your car already has a short ratio gearbox which technically should let you keep it up in the powerband more. Explore forced induction options if you want your 1.6 to punch above its own class, but that'll burst your 2k budget and then some.

Marvelicious 3rd Gear May 8, 2007 Author Share May 8, 2007 Thanks bro, might consider your advice and do the bars first. But those are not exactly for safety right? I am not that big actually. I am pretty short. 1.75m, 80kg. My legs are quite short and I drive a manual, so I don't really extend my seat that far out. More than enough ample space for rear passengers (which I don't have often).

Marvelicious 3rd Gear May 8, 2007 Author Share May 8, 2007 That was useful, thanks man. Can you explain what is "forced induction" and what options are there?
Marvelicious 3rd Gear May 8, 2007 Author Share May 8, 2007 Thanks bro. Am considering the Suzuki Sport. What is emanage ultimate?? Extractor and short shifter I might do too. Short shifter can be done at CAD right? Can test first?

Evilernie 4th Gear May 9, 2007 Share May 9, 2007 lup turbo and remember to do a sticker "i love to hug trees and bus stops" Bro U are mean... Hahaha... Anyway to have low end performance I believe you need to lighten your car, install piggyback to tune for launching, exhaust is a must (super splint heard is one of the best around), bigger throttle is also a must (there go your FC), the tyre you use also play a bit, short shifter & CAI. Not too sure about manifold though as its not cheap. Normally I saw some bros who mod don't usually buy brand new so do look around for people who are demod. Happy Modding and do show us your end result, yeah?

Dionyeo Neutral Newbie May 9, 2007 Share May 9, 2007 $2k shld be able to feed you with a decent pair of coilovers and stabalizing bars around your car, that's already almost 1 second shredded off from your fast ride esp. in corners. for your nice ride alternative would be brake upgrades, safety is always the main in concern
Chromas 1st Gear May 9, 2007 Share May 9, 2007 I'd still say that safety and handling is the most important mod that money can buy for your car. A good set of suspension, larger rims and wider tires along with better brake pads will do the job for $2k. Suspensions should set you back around $1k. Larger rims and tires maybe around $600 to $700. Lastly, a good set of brake pads, eg. Endless or Delphi will go a long way in helping you stop when you need the car to do so. After all that, then spend another $2k to get somemore kick butt action out of the car.
Mroonws Clutched May 9, 2007 Share May 9, 2007 If i were you, i make the car more drivable...i change the exhaust and CAI first, than the handling part where the coilovers, strut bars, a good pair of tyres and so on...steel braided lines, performance street pads and brake fluid...etc...the list goes on...
