Pisces69 6th Gear May 17, 2007 Share May 17, 2007 Just got high temperature yesterday. After top up, car back to normal..with fan cutting in at the slightly more half mark of the temperature. But when drive long period, the high temp came back. I did a reflush of the coolant suspecting it could be too dilute. Now still monitoring...what could be the problem?? ========================= Did u check your thermostat valve. The one that opens to allow the water from the engine block to travel to the radiator. Pisces69 6th Gear May 17, 2007 Share May 17, 2007 my old civic also encountered this prob.Radiator leak, hoses leak due to the coolant "biting" the hoses as told by mechanic.He said I used bad coolant and never mix properly with water.I didn't know then, I poured whole bottle of coolant into it. ==================== I pour 4 bottles at a time(which is still less then the 50/50 mix) without any problem. But u must remember the rubber hoses do have a lifespan. If they r hard, cracked, brittle or bulging, it's time to change them. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Pisces69 6th Gear May 17, 2007 Share May 17, 2007 Thanks all bros and sis replies. I changed my water pump late 2005...not sure whether it should spoil so prematurely. Oil level and dipstick ok. Hoses no leaks. The temp valve seems working perfectly..on the fan at slightly more half mark always. Will keep monitoring and keep you guys update. ======================= This valve is not the one that switches on the rad fan but the one that opens to let the hot water flow to the radiator. Pisces69 6th Gear May 17, 2007 Share May 17, 2007 do u kw roughly how much is a top overhaul ================= If water leaking into your cylinders, wil b hard to start in morning when engine cold cos there wil b water in 1 or more cylinders. Engine will start & sputter for some time b4 it runs smooth. Don't jump to conclusions about gasket leaking. That one quite ex to repair. Try other cheaper solutions first. Pisces69 6th Gear May 17, 2007 Share May 17, 2007 This has nothing to do with the fan. It is usually situated on the engine block just where the rubber hose connects to the top of the radiator. Cost is only a few bucks & add a few more for labour. Hard to check cos u can only see it when u remove it. Seems your problem is this valve is gone already. Chucky2007 Turbocharged May 17, 2007 Share May 17, 2007 most likely coolent hose leaking, either hose or clip problem. check your coolent level. temperature return to normal when car in motion means that yr fan water pump working properly. temperature only goes up rapidly when car is idlling right? When your engine is fully cold, open the rad cap (on the top of the radiator(not the one on the reservoir) & switch on your engine & warm it up to operating temp. U sud see tru the rad hole the water from not moving then start moving slowly then faster as the engine heats up. That means it is working properly. If the water doesn't move or moves slowly even if the engine is hot, means the valve is jammed & water cannot flow from the engine block to the radiator properly to b cooled. But what I experienced was not such that time I blew my engine head gasket... Morning still managed to start normally, but idling is lower than usual and slightly higher (not very obvious) vibration from engine.... (I understand this sympton cos only 1 out of the 4 cylinder got leakage) Occassionally if press the accelerator to increase speed fast a loud 'pop' sound from my exhaust... And all the time after driving for certain distance engine will heat up cos radiator water keep disappearing... I'd guess the leak was minor, and starts to leak when engine heated up, because if parked overnight the radiator level still remain the same. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
