OPC Offender

I hope I don't offend the OPC drivers here, but to me.. the OPC timings are not really "off-peak". Many of the roads are still congested at 7pm, yet the OPC cars can come out to the roads, contributing to the congestion. LTA has already acknowledged that peak hour is now extended later in the night by pushing bus lane hours back to 8pm, but yet OPC cars can come out at 7pm. A bit kuku policies by LTA to me .

 

This is rush hour traffic. How many OPC come out at that time as compared to normal cars?

How about 730am-930am rush hour traffic? OPC are off the roads by den. So who do u wan to blame?

 

I believe the main prob is too many cars on the roads.

Based on your conclusion, OPC drivers should also be able to drive the whole of Saturday and not only from 3pm.

 

Agreed. Since now gahment agencies operate on a 5-day work week.

I think u mis interpret his sentence, he mean, since LTA revise bus lane hr to 8pm, and yet OPC still can drive before 8pm, wouldn't that be unfair to normal car who pay full rd tax? as for your arguement in the morning 730 - 930 am, yes, that is the morning rush, it got no link to the 8pm timing mentioned.

seems like most of the forumers will not report such offenders, prefering the TP to catch them red-handed. hopefully, when we see a rape or molest case, we will not have such attitude.

But then again....sat after 9.30am is also "non-rush" hour or "non-bus lane" hours, then why shouldnt OPC be allowed on the roads. In worst scenoir OPC should be allow on the road after 1pm saturday and not 3pm.....especially nowsadays many are working 5-days-week.

 

Of course LTA can always revise the OPC timing from 8pm onwards....but there will be THAT much less OPC cars on the roads, hence less revene.....solving traffic jams might be a prority to LTA....but losing/gaining revene on OPC is clearly more important to them.

tats a totally different case. raping is doing harm to someone but driving a opc car without coupon didn't harm anyone.

To me, driving without coupon is like parking without coupon or jaywalking. Do u report these? What about smoking in non-smoking area? U report police? Pirated DVDs, chewing gum, porn, blowjobs, all illegal in SG what, u report also?

 

I don't see how the above can be compared to serious crimes like rape, murder, arson, burglary, terrorism, etc.

 

I have to agree with Seanboi, from your posts, u seem to hate OPCs.

I confess! On weekdays, I drove my OPC starting from 1855hrs and I park my car only between 0700-0705hrs. Of course from 0705-1855hrs.. it remained park and stationary.

 

Please do not ambush me.

 

Will normal cars owner still be pissed off by me if I take 5 mins here and 5 mins there?

I will not report it. Doesn't endanger my life or make me lose anything....so it's ok with me. If they are not caught, then good luck to them....if they are caught..then they deserve it.

U see, we are just car owners/drivers, not TP or LTA, we have no right to stop/summon them or tip off the relevant authorities. Esp when we cant confirm if there isnt any coupon.

OPC cannot drive mon-fri 7am-7pm, sat 7am-3pm, therefore they are given a tax break and $17K off. So how is this unfair to normal cars affected by 8pm bus lane (because normal cars can drive anytime on the road, regardless bus lane timing)?

What we are trying to say here is... OPC scheme is to give ppl a choice to own a car while not adding to peak hour congestion. Agree with you the main problem of peak hour jams is because there's too many cars on the road. But by allowing OPCs to come out at 7pm, this only worsens the congestion, thus failing the objective of the OPC scheme. So a revision of the OPC timings is long overdue to take into account the changing road conditions that congestions last up till 8pm, and that Sat mornings are less congested and hence OPCs may be allowed on the roads.

 

Having said that, I understand that LTA may face a lot of backlash from OPC owners if they change the timings, as ppl buy OPCs with the mindset that they are able to drive at certain hours. So I guess for them, they don't want to ruff too many feathers...
